Posting YouTube Videos - No Thumbnails, error 153, video player configuration error...??

OK, here we go

Nope.

So first off I appreciate all the efforts made to help resolve this.

And if this is the worst thing that happens I am having a great day.

But I would love to see a member who is  not a Moderator or the Owner of this platform make this work.

I will still feel foolish either way.

Not for me....

Employing some precision guesswork, if I had to guess, when the link automatically embeds, that might be the trouble spot. I'm clueless to how that can be investigated.

When I paste the link the thumbnail displays correctly. Once submit is hit, it all tanks....

Funny thing is - I see it when Russ posts it - but not when A-Jay does.

Some moderator 'super power'?

It's frustrating.... but I posted the link on another forum (not bass fishing) and the thumbnail displayed correctly. This again points a finger at BR being the source of the issue. It appears at this point that individuals can't resolve this on the user end. (more precision guesswork)

Go to the video, and click the "share" button under it.  Then click "Copy".  The video link is:

https://youtu.be/NN5sKeba0YA?si=vj56Fz0zW1q_iDRO

I had to paste that "as a link" instead of an embedded video, otherwise it does this automatically:

Did ya notice the stuff after "si=" changed from your post? Yours also has "/embed/" in the URL.

Yup, that's strictly YouTube garbage.  Different URLs for the same video.  Some work, some don't.

Sorry, but still no joy even posted as a link. Both will get you to the video, but still no thumbnail.

https://youtu.be/NN5sKeba0YA  doesn't embed for me either. It's the wrong format. It needs a query string.

I finally asked AI, since I KNOW FOR CERTAIN it's not a problem with this site.  Here's what it said:

YouTube's Error 153, often a "video player configuration error," is a widespread issue that frequently occurs with embedded videos and is typically caused by a browser's settings, an extension, or a problem with the referer header. Common solutions include disabling browser extensions, clearing your browser's cache and cookies, or trying a different browser, such as using Incognito or a different browser altogether. For embedded videos, the problem may also be fixed by modifying the embed code to use a "privacy-enhanced mode" or replacing the URL with one that starts with youtube-nocookie.com.

Common causes and solutions
  • Browser Extensions or Ad Blockers: These can interfere with the YouTube player by blocking necessary data.
    • Solution: Try disabling extensions like ad blockers, privacy tools, or other browser add-ons.
  • Browser Cache: Corrupted cache files can cause various issues, including this error.
    • Solution: Clear your browser's cache and cookies. You may also need to sign out of YouTube and then sign back in.
  • Referer Header: The error can occur when a browser doesn't send the correct Referer header, which YouTube requires to identify the source of the embedded video.
    • Solution: Using the youtube-nocookie.com embed URL instead of youtube.com can sometimes resolve this, especially for sites that have a default policy against sending referer headers.
  • Browser or Device: The problem might be specific to the browser or device you are using.
    • Solution: Try a different browser or use an Incognito/InPrivate window to see if the issue persists.
  • Page and Video Content: A specific page's layout or a particular video can sometimes trigger this error.
    • Solution: Try refreshing the page. If that doesn't work, try re-embedding the video or replacing the video block in your content editor.
  • Internet Connection: A poor or unstable internet connection can prevent the video from loading correctly.
    • Solution: Check your internet connection to make sure it is stable and fast enough for streaming.

^ Still doesn't explain why when Russ posted the vids, the screenshot was visible and you could play it here while when A-Jay posted the exact same vid I got the black screen....no changes to anything else....just who posted it.

And I posted as I normally do on another website and the thumbnail displayed correctly. I didn't change any of my settings.  Scratching head....

Video posted on another site screenshot. Thumbnail displays correctly and it plays correctly.

I'm thinking it's a setting in the particular forum software Glenn is using...some 'switch' is turned off preventing normal users from posting vid links.

I think Glenn is on to something. I was on a different site, not a forum type site:

And no, I’m not doing this to pump Glenn’s tires :)
