Bass Pro Qualifier PQX10HD parts

Featured Replies

Was fishing yesterday with a buddy and his reel started acting up, the levelwind stopped working in one direction. I told him I could tear it down and take a look and that is what I did this am. I am shimano guy since the reels are pretty easy to work on and seem to just work but they are all pretty similar. I tore it down and cleaned it up, bearings and everything else besides being dirty all cleaned up. The level wind pawl tip appears to be worn on one side just enough to where it doesn't always engage at one end when winding, the levelwind itself appears to be fine both parts are metal which is rare for these days and it is an older reel. Here is one of the original reviews from way back this is the reel - https://www.tackletour.com/reviewbassproqualifierbaitcaster.html

So I know I could get pretty much any shimano part since they have many common parts but not sure what substitutes reels would be equivalent to order a new pawl from @Delaware Valley Tackle or anyone have any suggestions? Kind of looks like a lew based reel but was hoping someone could steer me in the direction as to what substitute I could get to get it working again.

Thanks

Did you try calling BPS’s service center? I ordered a replacement handle with zero issues and timely shipping. The only caveat is you’ll need to find a schematic for the reel if your friend doesn’t have one.

I have called but do not know the part number and left a message. I think the pawl is the same one that is used on a speed spool but not sure. Still looking to see if I can find a schematic online...

Take pictures of the reel and attach those with an Email. Describe what you have discovered and perhaps they can lend a helping hand in the identification of this reel and the needed part..

Maybe someone who owns the reel such as @Bazoo can help you out with a schematic as I believe he owns 2 of them currently 🤔 I also believe someone shared a site that has schematics online.

I don't own any of the Pro Qualifier PQX models, I have the PQC models: PQC10SA 5.6:1, PQC10HA 6.8:1, PQC10SHA 7.5:1, and I have 4 now, lol.

I searched for a while and I could not find a schematic for the PQX models. I do have a schematic for the PQC models though if anyone needs that.

Here is a video I found on the PQX that might be of interest - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrYAkFkZDdU

I found a guy on ebay that was selling one new in box and he had all the paperwork including the schematic. He was nice enough to take a picture and send it to me so I have a schematic now and know the part number.

@FloridaFishinFool had a good idea to just get a replacement based on size and get a ceramic one which may last longer. I have a caliper and measured it so I know what will fit and have that as an option.

The Basspro reel shop called back and left a message they have the part also and so I have that option also, just need to decide on which way I want to go. The levelwind is metal so maybe going with a ceramic pawl is the way to go.

Appreciate all the help I know my buddy also appreciates it although now he won't have it as a reason to get a new reel, lol.

Here is the schematic photo from the ebay user, not the highest resolution but was able to see most everything from my phone...

well that didn't work so well, anyone that wants a better copy PM me with your email address and I will send it that way...

If bps doesn’t have the pawl get one for a gen 1 or 2 revo off ereplacement parts.com.

You can also try adding a spacer under the cap. Make sure the worm gear is not grooved

Worm gear looks fine as close as I could tell and I do think a spacer would do it but for how long and then where to get that tiny of a spacer. It would only have an issue at one side maybe that is worn a little more but its just barely not working.

They had them at the BPS repair store, price was fine but they have a stock shipping charge which was kind of a bummer since I am like 3 hours away from them but it is what it is. Ordered 2 of them so I have a spare in case one of his other reels has an issue in the future.

I will say first time I have opened up one of them and seem to be ok, the drag was nothing special and not a fan of how they have the levelwind shroud locked in. I prefer working on my shimano's much easier to deal with, lol.

Thanks for the information as always.

Bring this up from the dead ....

Glad I came across this thread — it looks like I’m having the same issue with one of the reels I just purchased off ebay. One works perfectly, but the other seems to get stuck at a certain point. I can turn this one into part replacement since it was only $28 busk for both 7.1.1.

It’s helpful to know that I can order the part (pawl and worm gear) from eReplacement if needed. I’ve tried reaching out to BPS Reel/Rod customer service and left a few messages, but unfortunately haven’t received a response.

any tips @bishoptf that I can get a hold of them :)

Yeah not the easiest to get in touch with, not sure how long its been since you left a message but they always called me back. Honestly there shipping process leaves a lot to be desired. If you have a caliper Inwould just measure it, height vs diameter. There seems to be several standard sizes, but once you have the measurement you can go on ebay and find ceramic ones that should last even longer. If you have the same reel that I was repairing I can take a measurement and let you know what size it is...

No I dont have a caliper myself (added to my "wish list") and I do have the CLASSIC BASS PRO QUALIFIER PQX10SHD (7.1.1) Would prefer to go ceramic method but just need something to make it work again. Thanks in advance.

4.65x8.7 I believe is the correct size...I was lazy and didn't go get my digital caliper, this is my $2 caliper but its accurate..

@bishoptf

I wasn’t expecting such a quick turnaround! Looks like I know what to look for on eBay.

Thank you so much for sharing that information to get the ball rolling.

I’m known as proscrater. Good news—I ordered it today from eBay (Pawl Type: D, 4.65×0.75×8.70 mm). I’ll let you know if it resolves the issue—fingers crossed

Have an old Mitchell 300 spinning reel I'm attached to and it needed repair. Called these guys and they were able to find the parts and repaired it. Good Luck.

I grew up many moons ago and it was mitchells that we used. I wish I had kept a couple of them just to have....

@bishoptf Issue resolved! The part showed up today (seriously fast shipping), and now it works like it never skipped a beat. Thanks for starting this thread—I was one step away from giving it a one-way trip to the trash can.

No problem, glad it worked out....
