Joedodge boat build/set up

You're almost there... need a butt seat and gas raised post. Get the seat that looks (and feels) like a granny's bike seat. (That style is easier to stand with it wedge in your crotch.)

5 tie off cleats and a length of nylon rope twice the length of your boat to aid in loading and unloading from the trailer.

It had a seat in the front with a short base. But it took up the whole front deck. I’ve actually been looking into options exactly like you mentioned. And yes it has 2 cleats on the port side it’s getting 2 more on the starboard side tomm morning lol. Thank you for the advice!

You went from fishing your local ponds on foot, to most of Iowa now depending on the weather.

I'd say time and money WELL SPENT.

lol! Thank you. I think so I’m really happy with it honestly.

Looking good. Can’t wait to see the next fish in the boat.

Me too lol. Our weather has to get more stable and the water temps to come up I think. I really hoped to be able to rustle one up today. Just couldn’t make it happen

Glad you maiden voyage went well, and you got some time on the water.

Does your foot pedal reach the lower deck or just the upper bow deck?

Thank you! No it won’t quite reach back there.

Ordered a foot pedal tray today. Should be here Thursday. I’d like to get the trolling motor pedal more comfortable to operate. I still need to adjust the tension screws. But it may be ok once it’s recessed in the floor

Threw two more cleats on the starboard side so now there is 4. I got a panther recessed foot tray from bass pro that got delivered today. I’ll be making a trip out to the store to return it Saturday. The thing is absolutely massive lol. Way too big for this lil boats deck. So I’ll deal with captain morgan pose until I get time to tig weld up an aluminum one custom to that deck and pedal.

I think you will appreciate having the recessed pedal tray. The pedal on my maxxum looks exactly like yours.

It showed up and it’s a monster lol. I’m gonna return it and either make my own at work. Or order a slimmer more compact one like TBN sells. It was funny how big this plastic panther one from bass pro was up front

The picture doesn’t do it justice lol. I’ve found some smaller ones or I’ll make one the size of the pedal

Went out this morning. New graph worked well. Water was 49 degrees. And I could actually see what was going on underneath me. Got how Deep the trailer wants to be in the water to launch and trailer figured out. Wind was light 8 knots. After about 2 hours it picked up to a steady 15 with 20+ gusts. I found my limit lol. Never felt unsafe by Ang means but this things so light it’s a giant pain in the wind lol. Was on the trolling motors hard for 3 hours or so and only dropped the battery to 13.28 volts. Fished brush piles and dead trees all morning. Lost a jig. Hung a spinner blade up and broke a blade off. Three about every style reaction bait I have at them. I really suck at this boat fishing stuff lol.

You'll eventually get the hang of it. It's good to know the sweet spot when backing in to unload/load, and it's also good to know what your boat's limits are.

We all learned this at one point as new boat owners. I can assure you that I did too.

Absolutely. The learning and adventure has been amazing. I definitely think I eventually need a small outboard. And I hope to catch a fish off if some day lol

At least you got out on the water. Is it easy to load and unload?

Yep was a nice morning. Wind just got to be a tad much. It pushes off great. Loading kinda sucks I’ll have to snap a pic of the trailer after I launch sometime. It’s mostly rollers and 2 baby bunks. So it doesn’t nestle into the trailer that well. It’s not awful tho

You can’t go by voltage on a lithium to know how much you’ve used. They will stay at a pretty constant voltage from 90% down to 10% and then just stop. Something to keep in mind.

Ahhh ok. Well thank you. I knew I’d used more this time it sat on the charger for about 4.5 hours. I definitely should look into to a gas motor

I don’t know if you got the Bluetooth version of the battery. If not and You find yourself pushing the limits of the battery you could get a shunt meter which will tell you capacity remaining.

That said, I think you got a 5ah charger? And 4 hours charging would be 20 Ah. That’s nothing in total use so you had plenty to go.

I have 3 Impulse Lithium 60 amp hour trolling motor batteries. One consistently shows a lower state of charge after a day of fishing. I talked to the experts at Impulse Lithium and they said to ignore the SOC and look at volts. When I checked voltage of each battery they were almost identical for the three batteries. I found this chart to be helpful for a true state of charge. I believe Joedodge's battery did perform well.

Wow thank you for that chart. Looks like I was around 90-80 percent.
