Joedodge boat build/set up

Featured Replies

So I’m gonna make this thread to document the things I do to the boat and trailer and how I set it up. I was a 20 year diesel mechanic and now an industrial plant mechanic at a wastewater plant. So Id say im handy. But I’m not great at documenting and telling a story. So this will be some comical stuff, informational and some crappy pictures. But I know before I got this boat I looked at a lot of threads and it helped me. So I’m hoping maybe it will help someone else some day. So I’ll add pics and info as I do things. I’ve done a lot already but will spread the posts out.

Always interesting to watch these projects unfold over time.

@MN Fisher had one years ago that was like 15 pages long when he built Bass Trek. The transformation was impressive.

Got her emptied out and went through the things it came with. And removed the front chair. I need to get a battery box and mount it in the back. The old metal tool box was just sitting there. I kept the tools ( not that I need anymore of that crap lol) and will use a smaller lighter plastic box. I’ll clean the floor up some in the back and in the front compartment. I replaced the plug with a new brass one and bought an extra spare. Trolling motor wiring is in good shape just need to replace the ends it’s good 6 gauge wire atleast. The previous owner knew about voltage drop apparently since it’s a decent run from front to back.

Got the carpet swept, blown out, and vacuumed. Lots of gravel dust and shop dust. It has sat for a few years. Even though covered it had a lot of dust and a lot of the lakes here are off gravel roads. So everything is always dirty. But it looks a lot better now. Also

Checked the legitimacy of the custom measuring device they had. It’s on the money lol. I will be leaving i like the character and functionality.

Awesome. Looks like the carpet is in pretty good shape after a vacuum. It’s looking pretty sharp. Just one thing though:

Got the battery box installed. I can’t use the lid it sticks up past the back deck boards. But that’s ok it will keep it in one place and is covered by the deck boards anyway. Also installed a tub on the port side. I can keep rope, the anchor and a small Utility box I got to keep first aid stuff, some basic tools and sunblock and crap like that in. That sides deck boards anyway was cut out for the gas can that was to tall. So it’s a little funky but I’ll

Make a new one some day with out the hole In it lol. Also got my 10 amp charger for the battery. Battery should be here this week.

Looking good. Maybe think about a cheaper dry bag as well. Nothing in that boat is really going to be waterproof so a dry bag for a spare hoodie and socks, maybe a towel, rain gear, etc. Plastic tubs are good for small things. Tupperware is good for stuff too.

Excellent idea! I had one in my kayak in Florida now that you say that. Idk how I could forget that. Thank you. Tupperware is also a great idea.
