So who got the new Ryoga?

Featured Replies

The reception seems good, but did you buy one? Intend to get one in the near future? I need one in the 200 size for muksy, striper and swimbaiting bass, so until they get their ass together, and release a 200 size, i am not getting one.

Congratulations for telling us you’re not getting the Ryoga.

Hope it helped.

Looks cool, but heavy.

I'm assuming it's not?

It's heavy, but this is not a reel you use on a short meduim stick for jerkbaits. Considering how massive the reel foot is (don't think i ever saw one this thick on a bass reel), it's pretty clear that they weren't paying much attention to the weight of the reel.

If the brake system is like the Millionaire CT with the adjustment on the whole palm, I will pass. Nice looking reel though. If I read the specs correctly, the 150 might fit between the 200 and 300 Conquest. That would fill a unique gap in the inshore fishing realm. Should be a powerful reel.

I will probably pick up another Calcutta Conquest instead though, might be a 200 size this time.

For a round reel for jerkbaits, the Conquest 30 shallow spool is my favorite. Just a pleasure to fish.

On topic, Daiwa has always been set and forget, especially with a reel properly dialed in to a single niche.

Set it up right casting high arcs on your light end, and you're done.

Pretty much the same as setting fixed internal mag on bench Ambasssadeur, but has external dial if you need it, e.g., windy day.

I have both the 100 and the 150. I really like the performance of the 100 and went and picked up the 150.

I haven't fished the 150 yet. I will be test driving it this weekend with Swim jigs, Spinner baits and Chatter baits.

p.s. the reels are works of art.

Not for me personally. I always fish at the VERY edge of backlashing. I want the spool to feel as free as humanly possible. Gotta constantly do small adjustments depending on lure change, wind, etc.

Opposite of OP post, my Ryogas are both on short rods for close-beast-sight-fishing.

The silver '26 100 is on 6'4" 3-power for Spook Jr.

pDB1Bxn.jpg

My black '18 1016 is set up on 6'4" 2-power S-glass for skip-casting 1/8-oz bunny shrimp under mangrove overhang. The beast need is controlling big fish at the boat.

MZYrIip.jpgOther 34-mm Daiwas, shore BFS w/ 3-g plug casting 130'

43Ysx2E.jpg

Inshore flats kayak drift-fishing down to 1/8-oz JH

vCBlGPC.jpg

No need to futz or guess - the tuning has all been done with a couple of back acre 3-g casts.

All fishing threadline, none has ever backlashed.

Fixed internal mag + centrifugal, 2 oz to 120m (can't afford BL, and mag costs less distance than end tension).

Mag set is for light end and mid-cast. Light end set doesn't affect heavy end, especially with SV Boost. On Daiwa, MagZ and SV covers heavy end, and there's nothing to adjust - pick the right spool.

I really want the 150 Ryoga for swimbaits.

I am the same on most all Daiwa reels. I am constantly adjusting them. I would say they need the most/more adjusting and monitoring through out the day than any other group of reels I own. I'm use to it so this is more of an observation than a complaint.

The forum always lines up in 2 lines - half says they cast farther on their Shimano, and the other who swears their Daiwa out-casts their Shimano. Everything else equal, the difference is wrist snap, and it plays out in the physics. It's often a bad habit brought from spinning tackle, because spinning cast rewards wrist snap with extra cast distance.

Cast jerk comes from spool starting up with big cast weight - it can also come from wrist snap, even casting light weights. Centrifugal and non-linear mag (SVS and MagForce) both subtract jerk energy from the cast - whatever excess jerk energy the start-up brake can't subtract from the cast becomes start-up backlash. Subtracting energy from the cast subtracts spool speed, which also shortens cast result. People who cast with more wrist snap will get less distance from Daiwa SV, may see an improvement with SV Boost and Shimano SVS, and most everybody will see better distance casting heavy weights on MagZ especially vs. centrifugal braking.

Instead of adjusting the reel, try adjusting the cast. Let the rod rebound and lure weight carry the cast, not the jolt you add to the rod. If you already have baseline mag set at the light end of your rod, the one time you may want to change Daiwa mag scalar is casting into the wind - add 2 notches. And remember to take them back later. I can count on one hand the number of times I've changed Daiwa mag setting when on the water.

The Bait Monkey wanted me to get a couple of these. So I looked them up at TW. Almost $700. I laughed so hard the Monkey started to cry. Maybe someday, but for now my Tatula 150 will have to do the job.

How is it that your bait monkey is searching on TW for a JDM reel? It needs to discover importing from Japan, or be very outdated in 2026🤢

Look on TW they have new Ryoga 150 for $699.99 and Ryoga Ryoga 100 SV for $679.99 Are these different than the JDM models?

It doesn't matter for you because you already land HUGE bass with basic gear.

fairly sure they are talking about importing vs purchasing jdm items through u.s. retailers. last time I checked, importing a new ryoga 150 was going to run me about $500, after fees and what not.

Looked back to December.

Digitaka paid 11% duty, and I pre-paid 10% on Digitaka invoice

- $457 delivered FedEx in 3 days.

And that's from Digitaka. From auction sites, you can get one for significantly less. This $700 price from TW is laughable. A price to "farm" the unaware.
