Tatula 80 Issue

Featured Replies

I recently picked up at Tatula 80, I spooled it up with 30lb berkley X9 and noticed when I give a moderate amount of force on the cast, the spool makes a screeching sound , If i cast gently the sound isn’t as pronounced. I use the X9 on all my setups, and have not had this problem. What could be causing the screeching sound? And how do I fix it? Thanks in advance.

I was going to say mine do this and it’s been ok for me, but further digging says it needs oil on the spool. Give that a shot.

Have you lubed the bearing under the tension knob and the one in the side plate? The one I got from you has been great, but every now and then those spool bearings need a drop of oil or they'll get loud. Do you have a Daiwa Reel Oiler? Makes it easy to place the drop between the bearing shield and inner race.

I think this is normal behavior. My tatula elite and reg tatulas both do this on full-power casts. I believe it is the sound of the braking mechanism doing its thing.

None of my Tats do this, but I oil my bearings about once a month. Takes 2 minutes and everything is right again.

A number of my daiwas have done this out of the box, it's always dry bearings

@Banned User mostly tat elites for me, but my routine for any new daiwa reel now before line goes on is to pull the spool and oil the spool/pinion bearings.

Yeah, they make great products, but simply ship them bone dry sometimes. Feels a bit nickle and dimey

Make sure the line coming off the spool is going OVER the crossbar just behind the level wind and through the t wing, instead of under the crossbar and through the t wing.

If oiling the bearing doesn't help sometimes the bearing needs to be replaced.

Bought a brand new one last fall and did this. I oiled all bearing and it still whined bad. I sent it back for a replacement. Hopefully the new one doesn’t. Seems to be very common on the 80

Heard from the OP that oiling the spool bearings solved his issue.

I’ve heard this is common with the tat 80s
