Favorite line for skipping?

Trilene Big Game Fluoro, being stiffer, seems to skip better than the mono I’ve been using. Anyone else experience that a stiffer line skips better?

I use straight braid on my skipping setup in 40 pound suffix 832. The lake I do a lot of it on in midsummer is pretty murky but the fish gravitate towards docks when the sun comes out. I primarily use plastic stick baits wacky-rigged.

20# Tatsu or 50# Smackdown braid depending on what I’m throwing where.

And yes, using a heavier line along with a less than full spool you can be more accurate with less bird nests.

But, nothing takes the place of good mechanics and an educated thumb.

Caveat..

If you’re not experienced yet in the fine art of skipping, Don’t try to make up for any loss of distance by trying to muscle it in.

Just try to maneuver a little closer to your target area.

I do 90% of my skipping on 15lb fluorocarbon. I do occasionally like to sling an Ika or Gitzit under the marina docks with a spinning rod on 10lb braid.

As you develop your skill and style, you will most likely drift toward a limper line.

I've been using 17lb test floro and lots of brakes. I'm at the intermediate stage of skipping. Lots of really good skips and lots of really bad ones.

When it comes to skipping I really don't think of line as a primary concern. I will also admit that I am not the best at it but I can hold my own. When it comes to line though, I like 12-16lb Fluorocarbon or 50lb Braid to leader but I also skip crankbaits on 7lb Fluorocarbon and senkos on light PE line with a 10lb leader so I really don't have a set favorite I guess.

I think under ideal conditions (perfect boat positioning, low wind, a good flat bait and an easy target), I would go with 12lb Seaguar R18 LTD or 14lb Sunline Invisible.

I have to skip at times with all the line I use and all of it works great. 6-20 lb mono and 20-65 lb braid all skip well with various spinning and bait casting set ups.

The key is throwing baits that skip well and keeping your rod level with the water and not overpowering the bait - I can skip everything from a weightless senko to a 10” swimbait on a 3/4 oz beast hook. Rod tip that isn’t too stiff helps a lot but isn’t essential and having the spool be slightly under filled are both useful for skipping with any line type. It’s really hard to skip when it’s very choppy - calmer conditions are your friend.
