Favorite or best wakebaits

Featured Replies

BPS Egg, Strike King Hybrid Hunters, and the Jackall Riser are all in the starting line up for wakebaits. I have a new BPS Wake Up Call that one of the kids got me for XMas that is trying out for the team. The Hybrid Hunters have gotten in the game most though because they are duel role lures.

I always have at least one wake bait tied on; hands down favorite is the Berkley Wake Bull which was discontinued a couple years ago. I still have 4 in different colors, but my favorite lost it's bill to a rock only recently; sad day, it served me well. I have two boxes of wake baits, but the Wake Bull is number 1.

I only have 2 of them, and I broke one a few weeks ago. I almost cried.. Berkley really needs to start making them again.

A close second is the Jackall Mikey.

The DEPS Buzz Jet Jr. is the wake bait that has caught the biggest fish for me - I like the OSP Buzzin and CO-Buzzin, they are fun to use - I recently purchased a Megabass ORC Burning Shad but have not used it yet

How are you fishing that buzz jet jr? Just a slow steady retrieve or do you work in any pops, twitches or pulls?

Storm subwart. Discontinued when rapala bought out storm years ago. Thanks again, rapala.

I've still got 5 of them in a tackle box and 1 unopened. The 2 inch versions are insanely priced on eBay.

I primarily used them on a mid sized river for smallmouth in the summer time but those days are over here.

Good point to remember : If you have proven success with a hard bait of soft plastic - buy some to havd in reserve as you never know when they will get discontinued !

I still have 2 of them from my wade fishing days and guard them carefully. I remember climbing an overhanging thorn tree to retrieve one; another time one was saved by a Northern Pike getting it lodged up and down in it's mouth, preventing it from being able to close down and cut the 4# line.

Do they cast any better than the daibuzzin heavy hitter? It spins a lot especially if there is any wind.

I don't have any problem casting them. But I'm on spinning.

They are designed with a slow retrieve in mind...so that's what I do.
