Poe's crankbaits

Featured Replies

David Fritts won a Classic on these baits many years ago. Digging thru my tackle on a day when heat index is 105 and I found several I had bought. I don't think I ever used them. Anyone have any thoughts or experience wih Poe's?

I have several that I haven't used in 20 years.

“Back in the day,” they were one heck of a diving crankbait. Still have a tackle box loaded with them. Had the weight to cast long distances, and being cedar, were easy to drill out and modify to get the depth profile and/or buoyancy you desired.

I remember tying one on and throwing it for an hour. The 5 1/2 foot rods I had back then were good for throwing a Big O but not so much for the Poe's! Put 'em away and haven't seen the light of day since.

Our lakes have been high and dirty but with the hot, dry weather ahead I will give them a try soon.

I remember having a shallow running Poe's that I caught a lot of fish on when I was a teen. I think it was chart/black back.

I have a few in my garage, not in the boat. Tried them over and over, but never could produce any fish.

I have 15 or so I occasionally use. Still work to this day.
