baitcaster vs spinning for senko fishing

Featured Replies

Ive got some money buring a hole in my pocket and i want to buy a new setup for plastics. I fish weightless senkos along with texas rigged plastics most of the time. My question is will i be able to throw a weightless senko with a baitcaster or would I be better off going with a good spinning setup.

Absolutely! Any bc reel worth its salt should be able to toss a senko. You might not know this, but a senko weighs aboout 3/8 oz all by itself. So even if you toss it weightless it is sufficiently heavy for pitching or casting. Have fun! ;)

What they said....using the 5" and longer Senkos.  No problem at all with a baitcaster!

actually 3 and 4 inch  stick baits cast wonderfully also

My Senko rod is a Team Allstar wacky worm special baitcaster. I don't think they make it anymore in a baitcaster though.  I've thrown baits down to 3" with it with no problem.

5" cast like a multistaged rocket on bait casters, 4" cast like a rocket, 3" require a bit more care and I haven't tried anything shorter.

Either or.  I certainly can cast them much further w/ spinning but both work just fine.  Senko77 had a BPS finesse b/c'r that threw them pretty well too if I remember correctly.

You can use either type of equipment, but I prefer spinning tackle for all soft plastics.

I prefer spinning.

With a bait that tears as easy as Senkos, I'm not a big fan of the whipping action involved in baitcasting.

Shimano Stradic 2500 and BPS Extreme

Shimano Stradic and St Croix Premier or Avid

Shimano Stradic and Shimano Crucial

for senko's I am firmly in the baitcaster corner.

Any weightless worm is better served on a baitcaster if it can handle the weight.

The worms have a tendency to spin when you are fast retrieving them for the next cast.

It's a line twist in progress.

u can use either

personally i prefer baitcasting setup for most plastic fishing

i use both, but mostly a 6'6" M/F spinning rod.  i just like they way it casts them better.  i use a bc if i am around heavier cover, but mostly a spinning reel.

Since most of my Senko fishing involves skipping them under boat docks and skipping them under trees that overhang the water, I prefer a spinning rig.

For unweighted Senkos and Ikas I prefer spinning equipment.  For weighted T-rigged soft plastic I prefer baitcasters.  My favorite setup is a Quantum Energy Pti-a 20 on a 6'6'' M St. Croix Avid with either 6lb YoZuri Hybrid or P-Line Floroclear , a 4/0 Gami and a 5in Senko Green Pumpkin Black Flake.

4'' senkos or bigger can easily be cast with baitcasters  ;)

I think i will buy a bps extreme baitcaster on a falcon lowrider rod. Should i get a meduim or medium heavy rod?
