here my situation.......i went to my local dicks & they have the st. croix avids on clearance for 79.99.  they only have one model left which is a spinning 7'0 medium light fast action.....what application would this rod be good for? ihave a couple avids now but neither is med/light...i want a 7 footer but i just dont know about med/light action....can someone let me know.....with the coupon ill get an xtra $10 off so its a deal, i just dont know if ill ever use it

 

Drop shotting for one.

It may be tempting and seem like a deal (and it is compared to the original price)....these are very nice rods......but is it really a deal if you are not going to use it?

haha. Same thing happen to me. The only rod left was a 7ft ML, for the Avid sale.  I bought it.  I like it

There is a 90day return with reciept, so buy it worry about it later.

I like mine very much.  Does 4 inch senkos finesse worms, and the like very well.  For me, I like the 7ft, just not transporting it, that part is a pain for my circumstance.

Either way, buy it, and try it.

I'll play devils advocate then....I wouldn't want it even if it is a good deal.  Avids are great sticks but I have no use for something that light in action.  Thats a sissy stick to me and I wouldn't use it.  MH power fast action is as light as I'll go.  Might be good for panfish I suppose.

I don't know if its true but they recommend a ML fast action for most types of applications for smallmouth fishing on St Croix website. I would say go for it! If you don't like it. Just return it or ebay it.

I have the AS66MLF. It's an excellent rod, but the tip is too soft for some applications.

However, it's fine for any moving bait (flukes, GYCB Kreature, light ot medium weight crankbaits, jerkbaits or topwater) and especially as your drop-shot rod. You will find this stick to be VERY versatile, but not the right equipment for Senkos or jigs.

Go to Table Rock Lake or any deep, clear lake with smallmouths and spotted bass, in the hot months of summer without a light to medium light drop-shot rod.  The sissies will be catching all the fish.

Aw man ! I would do a killing with that rod down here in Zimapán, La Laborcita, Duarte & Otates ...... I can see meself with 6 lb test casting them itsy bisty soft plastics and ketchin them basses one after another with rigging and fishing techniques right out of my bag of sirty tricks and bad luck charms ........ something I 's gonna do preciselly this weekend  .

I have several ML's,  not St Croix rods though, and I use them for lighter spinners, smaller jigs, etc.

I have even used a 5' Rapala ultralight with 10# braid on it for catching bass.  That's fun!

I would fish 3in senkos, small tubes with a light weight and use it as a backup drop shot rod.  At that price you can't go wrong.  I would buy one if I came by that deal.  Just my 2 cents!!!!

  i used my $10 coupon & got it for $69........ ;D ;D    i just cant pass up a deal...its a little "light"for my taste, but im going to put some time in learning how to drop shot, so it will come in handy....
