I need some suggestions on rod selection.  I don't have tackle shops near my place so please don't tell me to try them out first before I buy them.     The only time I get to try them is after they deliver it to my doorstep.   ;D

From researches and suggestions from this forum regarding reel selection, I am inclined to either get a Shimano Core 100MGFV or an Abu Garcia Premier.

What rod do you suggest I pair it with?  I have narrowed down my choices to three rods.  All of which are in the same price range and similar length.  

1) Fenwick avc70MF - $209.95

2) Kistler helium LTA He70mhc - $229.95

3) G. loomis IMX MBR843C - $245.00

Most important to me would be the rod's sensitivity since I will use this combo solely for fishing deep waters (more than 30 feet) with a Texas rig.

Can you help me?  Thanks in advance.

I have the Fenwick Techna AV AS70MM. It's a fine rod, but I don't think it's worth $209. The price was raised from $160 without any improvements. I consider it a couple of notches down from the G.Loomis.

I also had a IMX MBR844C for several years which I was able to exchange last year for the GLX version. I think you would be very happy with the 843, but the 844 is a more universal rod. If I only had one rod, it would be the MBR844C.

Another vote for the IMX. as posted.... for that close of price, I wouldn't consider either of the 1st two.

As for reels, what are you used to using? What do you consider deep and do you use braid or mono? These things may trigger different suggestions. (in the same price range) For example, you might want to think about a 50MG and a GLX (nearly same price as a Core and IMX) or you could use a premier and get a custom rod built and still be in the same price range.

You are getting into the price range that doesn't work well with "general" suggestions, which is why I raise the questions.. if your mind is made up, just disregard my other stuff. ...lol

I wouldn't even consider the Fenwick- my only real suggestion for you.  I'd get the IMX in the 843- the 844 is so stiff.  I own both of the models and use the 843 for way more things.  I only use the 844 to pitch with.

Isn't it funy how differently we use the same rods for?  I use my 844 as a fluke and senko rod mostly...

yeah no doubt huh- I guess I always liked my rods a little on the lighter side.  I was thinking at least with the 843 he could get away with throwing a crank on it too.

I'd go for the Loomis IMX 843 or the 844.  I fished a friends Techna and it is a nice rod.  The only thing that I own that I would compare it to would be the St. Croix Avid but not quite as stiff.  I find it hard to believe that is a $209 rod.  

You might also look at the St.Croix Legend Tournament rods.

This would be my suggestion exaclty.  Get a GLX instead of the IMX and step down the reel.  Plus, I would suggest the 843C (I also have both the 843 & 844, but I find the 843 as a more universal rod.  I use the 844 for C-rigs and soft plastics in heavy cover)

Rw convinced me to get the MBR844C GLX, so I did, and I'm THRILLED.

Thanks for the sound advice.  You have got me thinking there.  

I fish more than 30 feet deep in open water using Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12.  I will use this combo for Texas rig only so I need a high-speed reel (but the lightest I can buy) to take in slack quickly and a super-sensitive rod to detect subtle bites in more than 30 feet of water.

Well, I'll be the "odd man out" here and recommend(highly!) the Kistler Helium model you're considering.  Their sensitivity is unparalleled IMO.  You won't get tired as quickly using one as they weigh about 4 ounces.

Although I have a loomis now and am really starting to like it, I would have to go with the Kistler still. They just build some unbelievable rods at great prices.

I have to go with Dan here.....I have the He70MH and use it for c-rigs,jigs,senko's,blades,chatters....the list goes on and on...it's probably my best all around sensitive rod without a doubt. That being said my 844 IMX is second and Powell 764 third. The 844 casts a little bit more accurately with the faster tip and the Powell casts furthest. On the Kistler I use a Daiwa TDA HST, 844 a Quantum Energy Burner,and Powell Revo Sx burner...all fit very well you really can't go wrong

I like my Fenwick HMX better than the AV I have!!!!!! The Fenwicks arent even in the same class as the other rods mentioned, however you don't need the supposed finest rods in the world to enjoy this sport.

I have an old Kistler 6'9" Graphite Plus Medium Action (129.00) and a Gloomis IMX MBR 782C (230.00).   The Kistler is more sensetive better balanced and lighter weight (even though it is 3" longer).   I like the IMX but it is the most over priced rod on the market.  I can not feel any difference in the IMX and a Wally World 50.00 Berkley Bionix.    

I also have a Gloomis GLX BCR 802.  It list for 345.00 or so.  It is over priced, but that is one amazing rod.  With Power Pro you can feel every strand of a jig skirt.  It will toss an 1/8th oz jig or a 3/4 oz  Super Spook and feels perfect for either lure.   The recoil guides are cool too.
