Going to throw some mono on my old mitchell combo 7 foot medium with moderate action and use it as my crankbait setup.

It is a spinning rig.

So what kind of mono and lb test would you guys suggest for all around shallow crankbaiting.

In the past I have used Trilene XL with no problems. I don't want anything really pricey either. Original Stren has been decent for some people but others HATE it.

Always the same:

For spinning tackle, #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test).

I think that most crankabit's diving depth is either based on 10-12# test mono. So I would reccommend staying with one of those depending on what areas you intend to fish. I always heard some people like fluro becasue it sinks and gives them more sensitivity. Since it's a spinning rig and moderate action, probably opt for 10#, I like stren, haven't had probablems. i heard XT is good, but the diameter size:pund test ratio is larger than other lines, so this could take away from cranking depth. If you have had good experiences with XL, stick with that. If it isn't broke, why fix it?

Big Game 10 lb test as always. I like XL only problem is that where I fish the most XL doesn 't cut it, I fish this:

Well technically Fluorocarbon is a MONOfilament. Just not a Nylon Monofilament. This is what I have been cranking with this year and I have been very impressed. Thin diameter, soft, and very abrasion resistant.

Fluorocarbon is monofilament, NYLON is what you are asking for. MONO does not = Nylon.

I started exprimenting last years with different lines for different applications. By the middle of this year I had a dozen different rods with about eight different kinds of line. That's when I decided the madness has to stop somewhere. I bought 3000 yd spools of Triline XL in 10 and 12 for my baitcasters, and 1000 yd spools of the same line in 6 and 8 for my spinning rigs. XL is the champ when it comes to smooth handling.

I use the same line for everything, except my crankbait rigs. For those I use Sufix Elite. That clear green color is very hard to see in the water, and I like that for cranks. Out of all the lines I tried out last year, Elite is the only one I'll be buying more of; besides XL, that is. It handles almost as well as XL. If I could see it as well, I'd probably use it for everything. I like to be able to watch my line for most of my fishing, and Elite is too hard to see. At least it is for me.

i geuss my 2 favorite choices are cajun red cast or tryline xtra tough ..... now i know xl smoth is sweet line however i prefer cajun red cast over the xl smoth .... i will use the triline xt  over the cajun when it comes to cover ,, just depeneds ...... these are my main craning line choices .... ;D

I've used Trilene XL for over twenty years with no problems. I've tried other lines on occasion, but I always go back to XL. I like the clear blue fluorescent, it's very visible, sun or clouds.

Learn something new everyday. Never knew that.

I fish spinning gear 99.5% of the time I'm on the water, I throw balsa wood cranks about the same % of time.  IMHO  Stren super braid 14/4 is by far the best line to fish shallow running cranks with  spinning gear.

Try several brands and different lines within the brand names, most of us have over the years. As I have already stated, I have a strong preference for Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft, but I continue to experiment!

This year (2007): Gamma (fluoro and copolymer), Triple Fish and Magnathin to name a few. Right now I'm back to orginal formula Yo-Zuri #15 on baitcasting equipment. Another experiment!

I may just end up spooling both reels up with Yo-zuri. I bought enough of it.

Agreed lol. Love playing with different lines and such. So that's why I wasn't going to put Yo-zuri on both. Again thanks for everyones thoughts! Love this board. Learned a lot this past year by asking questions and reading. Maybe someday I will actually be able to contribute some info. ;D

I will haven't found anything I completely like it as spinning line, other than braid.

I'll give Trilene XL a shot.
