I AM LOOKING FOR A 6'10" TO A 7 FT. ALL STAR

WHAT TAPER AND ACTION WOULD YOU EXPERIENCED JIG TOSSERS LOOK FOR?

I like 7' heavy/fast

Length: 6' 10

Line: 10-20 lb

Lure: 3/8-3/4

Power: Medium Heavy

Action: Extra Fast

My dedicated jig rig is 7' Heavy Power/ Fast Action:

G. Loomis GLX MBR844C/ Shimano CT200GT.

Sorry RW I forgot to mention 100 bucks is my budget, thanks I know those Loomis rods are great, a little bit outta my reach these days

The recommendation was just Heavy Power/ Fast Action or Extra Fast Action.

I like a stiff rod for jigs. Although I have fished jigs with my new St. Croix Legend Elite EC70MHF, I like the additional stiffness of Heavy Power better. As always, personal preference comes into play.

10-4 Thanks. I fish in water usuall less than 20 feet and Jigs usually around 1/8 to 1/4 oz. with some plastic on em. I will go and feel the difference between heavy and MH, but I am leaning to the MH All Star Rod

If you are throwing jigs that light I would recommend MH over the H.  Fast action either way.  I very rarely throw a jig less than 3/8 so I could be talking out of my butt but thats JMHO.  

I use a heavy power for heavy weed cover.  But I feel I can make more accurate pitches/flips with a MH.  

With that weight I'd go med heavy.

I dont think that jig would cast well or pitch well on a heavy.

with jigs of that weight a mh is more than enough.good choice!!!

Muddy for small jigs (1/4oz) and weightless plastics I just bought a 6'8 St. Croix Avid MXF and love it from what I have seen playing in the yard and casting.  I do not fish much structure or very deep water so the M power should not be much of an issue.

Seen to many extra fast tipped rods fail on a hard jig hookset.

If you have good sharp hooks, you should be able to get away with a 7' MHF, up to a 3/8oz jigs tipped, from 1/2oz tipped and up then I would go HF....

Try to find a good neutral to slightly tip heavy for the rod/reel balance, then spiral wrap and split the grip for weight control, you'll never regret it.

Yep,didn't know you were gonna throw lighter weight.I should have asked before i answered that.I throw mine(1/8-1/4) on the BPS extreme MH rods with those weights.If you don't like BPS go with cabela's brand.Also under or around $100.

What would you recommend to use that sort of rod (6'8 MXF) for as far as application goes?

On fast action-is it for over all controll of the fish? Due to the cover that your fishing in?

Seeing if I learned something a little this weekend

But, on DavidG's comment on hook setting on a extra fast action means I gotta long way to go here

Curiuos Muddy what reel are you pairing up with it?? Gear Ratio and such?

poppers and walk-the-dog type baits, tubes, grubs and unweighted soft plastics and then (as a last resort) some smaller shallow running cranks........

I would not get a H powered rod unless I am flipping into the heaviest cover imanginable.  Get a MH so you can use it for multiple apps.

Got a all star Classic xtra fast /med from cart 7 a while ago and it became my favorite rod. I have a couple ( Actually I have one and Bruce has one) of Titaniums from Redliner now i just got my jig rod ordered

Team All Star IM10 6'10" fast/med I do not fish a whole lot of thick weeds here up north
