Loomis MBR844c IMX or Mossyback BCR854?

Featured Replies

I'll mainly be fishing in and around grass on the Potomac River with this rod.  I already have a flipping set up in mind so I'm trying to decide on a Texas Rig/Jig Rod to compliment it but not overlap too much.  What are your thoughts on these two rods?  If you have any other suggestions, please feel free to chime in.

I have 2 MBR 844c's.  I can't say anything negative about them.  One is IMX and the other is GLX.   The only Mossyback I have is the 893 flipping stick.  It's nice too. I use the 844 GLX as my worm rod.  I fish at night without lights (black) and rely only on feel. The GLX is so sensative that I feel the strike on slack line and can also tell the difference between rock bottom, hitting grass or wood.

If you want the most sensitive stick of the two, go with the IMX.  The Mossyback is faster, and the IMX should be lighter.

If you are looking for a dedicated jig/worm rod, the BCR854 GLX is the answer to your prayers.  Keep an eye on that certain online auction site.

Thanks for the replies.  Will either cast a weightless senko or will I need another rod for that?

The MBR844C is a great all-around rod, but it really shines as a dedicated jig and/or soft plastics stick. The BCR854 has gotten rave reviews from guys that have both. However, the IMX in either series is the better choice.

Enjoy!

Another vote for the 844 IMX, it is my prefered jig rod at the recommendation of RW and others on this board. It is very sensitive, so don't say anything bad about it or it will cry, no just kidding.  :)

The 844 has a pretty delicate tip and will cast senkos just fine. I use my 844 as a fluke and senko rod almost exclusively.

The obvious exception could be "depending on your reel."

I purchased a used but excellent condition mbr844c IMX on ebay this afternoon.  $152.50 plus $20 shipping was a heck of a deal so long as it is as the seller described.  Thanks for all the replies and I'll be sure to let everyone know how it works out!
