Berkley vanish transition

Featured Replies

I purchased some cheap triline about a month or two ago. I've been fishing roughly once a week, since then and I've been dissapointed in how much the line has been fraying. Today, I finally got sick of it, threw the line in the trash and headed to Gander Mountain. I wasn't planning on getting anything chinsy this time, so I spent fifteen bucks on some Berkley Vanish Transition, eight pound test.

Then and only then did I take the time to actually read some reviews on BVT, and from what I've read this stuff has extreme problems with breaking --> and not just at the knot. Gander Mountain put the line on my reel for me, so I can't exactly take this stuff back and exchange it for fireline or anything. Is this BVT as bad as people say it is and if it is do you have any idea in how I can make the best out of a bad situation?

Any recommendations on what brand of fishing line I ought to purchase? Primarily, I am bass fishing and slashing x-raps or spinnerbaits, every now and then I tear into some huge pike or catfish. In a few weeks though, we're going up north on vacation and I'll be doing some jigging for walleye.

I've use the gold vanish before and it wasn't that bad (not that great either) Never had the line break like you said but it was a little stiffer tham i like.

I've read great things about Sufix . . . is there a big difference between siege and elite?  What type of sufix do you guys prefer?

Vanish is crap in my book.  I have a 1200 yard spool that berkley has replaced once and it is still crap.  Someone can have it they will pay the shipping.

GO BIG RED

I've used Vanish Transition as well. It does break a lot and I would not purchase it again. The Trilene 100% flouro isn't bad, and I really like Gamma Edge, but it also is quite pricy

rwhusker,

i'll take it for the price of shipping.

just let me know. dennis

While I'm a Berkley Trilene fan, the Vanish is JUNK!

If you want to stick with fluro, try Bass Pro Shops XPS fluro. Much better line IMO. If you want to go with a mono, give the Suffix Elite a shot! I've tried it for the first time this year and really like it so far! If the trend stays this way, I'll probably switch all my mono over to Suffix.

I put Vanish Transition on a reel two years ago and I'm still using it with no breakoffs. Tie your knots carefully and slobber them up. Trilene is good line. You might want to check your guides with a Q-tip to see if they are okay.

i tried vanish about 4yrs ago and it was awful.line breaking and knots not holding,i stuck with mono until recently i tried trilene 100% fluorocarbon and so far i'm happy with it,i have 17 lb test on baitcasters and haven't had any problems with knots, backlashs,or line breaking off and it casts well too

Vanish, IMHO, is one of the worst lines out there.  I find it hard to believe that it is still in production.  I would buy Trilene XL before I bought Vanish.   Just an opinion of course.....

15 dollars? you shoulda just bought the heaviest braid you could find(50lbs+) dont think you will have problems with breaking :)

I agree the vanish is crap. I've had break off problems with it and I throw nothing less than 17 lbs test. It probably will be discontinued like the iron silk. The 100% flouro is way better but at $22 dollars a spool I started to use backing.

I have never had a problem with Vanish but haven't been using it very long. I used Gamma and I think that was crap I guess its just a matter of opinion .

Many hate it,but i use it on my dropshot rig,as a leader on my C-rig,and several other finese applications.

vanish isn't that great, but one thing to try is not using the trilene knot that berkley recommends for flouro - and that goes for any flouro, imo. An improved clinch knot or even a palomar is much better than a trilene knot. also, make sure you always wet a flouro knot before cinching it down.

having said that, I like P-line's flouro, but feel it could be better. I'm looking into a replacement option for it. Halo's more expensive and I've heard bad things about it. if anyone has a suggestion that has tried p-line's flouro I'm all ears.

I don't like it either.

That does not mean that it will not work for you. Since you have allready paid for it and it is spooled go fish it and you make the decision. I am sure there are plenty of people that do like it so make the decision for yourself. Report back to us and let us know what you think.

i tried some of this stuff on my baitcaster and hated it.  All it ever wanted to do was spring up, and after it springs up it easily gets birdnested.  This is usually when the knot breaks and your baits goes flying 20' up in the tree.  So IMO this stuff is crap for baitcasters.

However I do use this as a lead on one of my baitcasters.  I usually put just enough so that all of it casts out and i don't have any left on the spool.

I picked up a spool of the 100% fluor - 8lb and am wanting to try it.

when I was using the 8lb for small mouth i didn't have any problems (average size smallmouth here where I fish is like 4oz...) when I tried it for bass I broke off a bunch of times.

I really like the trilene maxx...you should give that a shot.
