Abu Garcia Amb. 5000 spooled with 15 lb. Berkley Big Game on a

6'-6" Diawa heavy action/fast tip rod.

my P.B was a 6lb even on a Shimano Spirex 2000 strapped to my 5'4" custom Lamiglas fiberglas dock skipping spinning rod, she hit a texas rigged black shad Culprit worm, I never knew she was there she jus took it swam away, then BANG.

Revo S-L spooled with 10lb trilene XT, custom 6' MH rod made for me by Alpster, black on black 3/8 cavitron buzzbait.

I caught mine on a friend's combo. A Johnny Morris Signature Series baitcaster on a Kistler Graphite Plus Series 6'9' MH F.

On my epic day, my cardiff 400 broke on my second fish only 20 minutes into our trip.  I ended up using 4bizzs' loomis 955 with a cardiff 300 lined with 20# with a 8in hudd

Long Time Ago... 8-)

A 10lb. Florida Strain LM, caught in 40' on Lake Poway, Poway CA (SD) with an old (89) Shimano® TX graphite spinning reel, on an old Shimano® Beastmaster 6'6" MLF rod, lined with 8lb. Ande® Tournament Green line, split-shoting a 4" smoke/blue-fleck reaper and #6 hook.

Tight Lines All!!

Rogue 602 SJ w/Shimano Stradic 2500 spooled with McCoy 10 lb. Mean Green copoly

A blast from the past:

Rod.- Berkley Lighting Rod LR16 5 '6" MH pistol grip

Reel.- Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 521 XLT Plus

Line.- Trilene Big Game 12 lbs test

Lure.- Rapala Shad Rap SR7SD.

LMB.- 13.86 lbs.

I'm seeing a trend here.  That is the 3rd PB that has come off of an old Lightning Rod.  I did break my PB in '06 on a Loomis GLX, but I've only caught 4 fish over 7lbs in my life, and 3 of those were back in '89-'92, on my old trusty 6' M Berkley Lightning rod (black foam baby!) spinning combo. .  Those rods were the sh!t back in the day.

I remember those black foam handle Lightning Rods from the early 90's I caught my PB Chain Pickerel and Rainbow Trout on one of those paired with a Shimano Syncopate. Its still hard for me to beat the cast I used to get from that combo.

Interesting topic. Looks like a lot of PB's are several years old. This reinforces the idea that a true trophy is a very rare creature, no matter where you are.

I've caught two 8 pound largemouth.

#1. about 15 years ago

6' Team Daiwa George Cochran model rod

Daiwa TD2-Hi reel, #10 or #12 XL line

small green lizard on a jighead.

#2. last year

St Croix Avid rod 6'8" MXF

Revo STX, #12 XL

blue GYCB Swim Senko

Best smallmouth 4 1/2 lbs Crane Lake, Mn several years back

caught on a live leech on a jighead, fishing for walleye. Fishing about 45 feet deep when it hit. I thought I had a record walleye.

Berkley Cherrywood rod, 7' M ( 10 bucks at wally-world)

Symetre reel, 6lb test XL

The 8lber I caught earlier this summer was on a:

Fenwick Techna AV

Shimano Citica 100D

Yo-Zuri Hybrid ultra soft #12

6' M 2pc. Ugly stick with a cheap Abu Cardinal Spinning reel and 14# Trilene XL.  This was my first spinning rod and what got me hooked on bass fishing.  I sold it a few years ago when I started upgrading all of my equipment.

S*t happened my man, I met a Californy girl, dated her for several years and finally got married to her and then had two beautiful kids with her; nowdays I don 't fish as much as I used to before dating her, so less time on the water ---> less chances of hooking a goodun with my newer tackle.

7' med-hvy moderate st. Croix avid, with a shimano citica spooled with 14# suffix braid caught on a yellow and black baby 1-

my buddy FAILS at taking pics he only got about 1/3 of the fish in the pic

The fish in my avatar was my largest, stupid me didn't have a scale.  BR Member guesses ranged from 5-7lbs, I stick to 5lb just so i can break it easier =D

anyways, it was on a 6'6" BPS extreme MH, the old ones didn't have an action rating on them but it felt like a mod. fast compared to my MHF St croix.  Reel was a Shimano Citica 201 with some kind of braid.
