Spinning reel and rod suggestions

Featured Replies

I'm looking to get a spinning reel and rod for senkos and other light lures. Looking for suggestions on high end reels between $150-$300+. Rods right around the same price range. Any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Look at the Powell, Kistler, and Outlaw rods.  They rank right up there with St. Croix and others.  You would not be disappointed.

In reels, I am not as paticular with my spinning reels.  I use Shimano in the 75 - 100.00 range, or Abus.  But I would also give Pflueger a look as well.

Good luck, you are going to get a world of varying opinions on this one.

You can do quite well and be under budget with a Shimano (Stradic or Symmetry 2500 and a Gloomis IMX SJR 782 or St Croix Avid 6'6" MF spinning rod.  I have both and they are very versatile.

Thats what i'm hoping for FishBear. I like to write down all the opinions and suggestions and then research them to find which ones suit me.

If you can hold off until october the new quantum tour editions come out. the blue ones last year were awsome and the new look ones with the sweet lookin red knob on the handle should be a little better then last years.

Any 2500 Shimano reel, like the Stradic F1 or MgFA.

Any high end Medium Heavy 6' 6" graphite rod.

Be sure to check out your BPS catalog to see what is available.

Personally, I like the All Stars but my Shimano, St. Croix, Loomis and Kistler rods are excellent, too.

Even my $100 Bass Pro Shop Extreme rod performs great.

Have fun and the Bait Monkey awaits you.  ;D

I use a Stradic 2500 and Loomis GL2 783.  Great combo and very versatile.

As for reels the Daiwa Luvias 07,or the new Fuego,(200-300 range).as for rods. the Yamamoto line is worth looking into,i have a 7fter drop shot that i use for senkos, and DSing, small minnows as well.the Daiwa TD Tierra line i have two, only 70$ a piece i lovem! i use those for everything, have a medium and a medium lite.

Shimano Stradic 2500FI matched to a G. Loomis IMX SJR783 or

SJR843 would make a perfect combination! The St. Croix Legend

Elite is being replaced and you might find the current models on

sale and in your price range. I fish an ES70MF and would highly

recommend this rod.
