I know some of you were looking to purchase this reel.

What are your impressions so far?

Used mine about a dozen times so far. I'm satisfied so far. To be fair though I'll have to use it at least a couple years before I'll know how good it really is.

My question is what size to get? The 8035 seems like the likely choice for bass fishing, but at 160 yards of 6 lb test the 8030 doesn't seem that much smaller. Unfortunately I haven't been able to see the different sizes to judge how much difference there is. I like the thought of a 7.4 oz reel but if it is too small for bass fishing that doesn't do me much good.

A reel with that capacity is plenty big enough for almost any freshwater fishing, and certainly for bass.

I have two of the 8035's and I like 'em real well. Drags are like silk and they are feather light. Pretty slick reels in my opinion.

My limited experience with them is that they are not as smooth as the President.  I played around with one at a local shop and it was no comparison to a President, I even asked to see one from a different box, it was a bit smoother but still not on par with the President.

I will be using braid, so I don't expect too many line handling issues.  I have been using Symetre 2500 reels and can't get a good feeling how the different sizes of the Supreme compare to it

I own the supreme 8035 and I love the reel, except that is too big for bass.  I was manhandling the florida bass and peacocks with it so I moved the reel to a saltwater rod and used it for snook.  I manhandled 10-12lb snook as well.  Bass will not run like snook or tarpon.  I will be putting a supreme 8030 on a shimano clarus 6/12 rod for pond use and my 8035 will be on a daiwa 6/14 for canal use.  Gotta have backbone to haul up bass over 7lbs up the side of the canal.  I strictly use braid 10 or 15# with a 20lb leader, no swivels tie line to line, fastclip ok for freshwater, but not for salt.

Still a good question, Bass Brat. How's yours holding up? I'm in the market for a new spinning reel since my sweetie appropriated mine. The Supreme is on the short list.

I don't want to spend much more than $100. I don't use an "eggbeater" often enough to justify a top of the line reel. Whatever I get will be mounted on an Airrus Tradition spinning rod, 7'2" medium fast, 6-15lb line rating. I was thinking the 8030, at 7.4 ounces would be just about right.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, but to my knowledge, the only size they have left is the 750, which may be good for a small trout  :-/

If you guys can find any retailers that still have the 2000 to 3000 sizes, please let me know! That's a real steal.

It is a very effeciant reel. I recomend it. Very light and a good smooth drag.

Yes they came out with a new design and raised the price to 100.00 . I'm going to buy one and see how good it really is.

Thanks Bass Brat. I looked at the Symetre, but by the time I decided to pull the trigger the size I wanted was sold out.

I have two older Symetre's that i got for 20 bucks each. They're on my crappie rods, and I hate to take them off. They do a very nice job handling 2 and 4lb test line.

I like the idea of the Supreme's light weight. The Airrus rod I have is super sensitive; it has no cork, or foam, or any kind of grip material at all. The blank and grip area are one piece, so when you grip it, your hand is directly on the blank. This is the rod.

A nice light weight reel will just be icing on the cake.

i have 2 8030 reels and i love them BUT the problem i have is w/both reels sometimes when i cast the line gets caught on the line keeper that's on the spool (no matter how much or how little line is spooled )

i have the 8030 an use 20lb power pro an  i love it.

I have read the 8035 is fine for inshore use, so far no problem and I doubt there will be. Anyone that fishes salt rinses their reels in fresh water after each and every use. If this reel were used offshore getting saltspray on it there is a possibility of damage, but you wouldn't take it offshore anyway.

Now I'll give ya a tip.......Use corrison X or corrison block on your bearings and spindle, will make your reel even smoother and protect it. Also you may want to wipe a thin coating on the frame for further protection. I use this application for all my reels even freshwater.

DO NOT USE PB BLASTER! IT IS HARSH AND WILL DESTROY YOUR BEARINGS, this has happened to me several times.

Never had the problem of line catching the line keeper but I would put a small piece of masking tape over it.

When does it happen, on the cast or retrieve? Conventional retrieve or a popping motion when using top lure?
