One a baitcaster: How much difference does a lot of line make to your casting difference? What I mean is how would your distance be from your spool being 1/2 full as opposed to 1/8 inch from the rim? I doubt they make drilled spools for nothing so why add extra weight for nothing?

Just some thought. Light lures might be a little easier to throw :

never tried it.don't see why you would do that.it would slow down your retreive speed.

Don't know about drilled spool "why add extra weight for nothing". IMHO a reel that is filled to 1/8" has a larger circumference than one filled half way. It is further around a large circle than a smaller one, therefore more line coming off spool each time it makes a circle when you cast...

Most all of the specs and setups on a BC reel are with a full spool of line. You are not going to throw lighter baits just because of the line capacity being less on the spool. Replace (upgrade) or super clean the (existing) spool bearings and you should be able to throw lighter baits more easily..

Most of my reels have way too much line capacity. I always like

to start with a full spool.  So, replacing 80 yards or so is the ticket

for me, the rest is just backing whether it's fresh or not. It is highly

unlikely I will ever get to the backing on an outing, I would switch

rigs long before that happens.
