Ceramic insert fell out of my first guide - advice?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, somehow the ceramic insert on the last guide (the tip) of my IMX cracked and fell out. The guide is unbent and fine otherwise, but unusable. What should I do?

Thanks :-)

You'll have to put a new tip on.  You can do this yourself with a tip replacement kit or take it to a rod & reel repair center.

Thanks guys. Any advice on what kind of tip I should get? My rod is a Loomis IMX, 6'6 M power.

Next time stay away from the cheap brands!   ;D

Call G. Loomis Customer Service and they will send you a couple

of tips for free. If you are just slightly mechanically inclined, which

I am not, you can fix it yourself: With a lighter, CAREFULLY heat

the tip without burning the blank. Then, GENTLY remove the tip.

Clean the tip of the blank, apply a tiny drop of Super Glue to

the tip of the blank and replace the old with the new. You need to

check things quickly to be sure the tip is straight. Get someone to

help you and the alignment will be easier.

If you aren't comfortable doing this, still order the tips and find

someone that has replaced tips before. It's really no big deal, but

I would have someone do it for me.

Call G. Loomis, and find out what size and model tip top is used, and see if they can sent you one, for a small fee, or you can order it elsewhere.

The same thing has happened to my St. Croix, and they actually have an online form for this.  Replacement tip, glue, and instructions were overnighted to me for $5!

The older they get the more that can go wrong with your tip  :;)

As stated contact Loomis direct and ask for the proper tip for your rod model.

Then if you need any info/reference on the tip replace job look here....
