What rod (length and action)/reel (gear ratio) and line  do you guys prefer for buzz baits?

Same as my spinner bait set-up. 7ft Fenwick Techna AV MH/F paired with a Revo STX in 6:4:1 gear ratio spooled with 15-17lb Trilene big game.

The combo I use for buzzbaits is the same as for my spinnerbait. I use a 7' All Star American Classic Medium/Moderate paired with a curado d. I like the Moderate action for spinnerbait and buzzbait aplication more-so than Fast.

Same as my spinnerbait rod, I normally use a Shimano Compre 6'6" MH/F with Bass Pro Shops Extreme 6.4:1 ratio reel and 14 lb. Berkley Vanish Transitions fluorocarbon line.  Got another rod just like this only it's a M/F and has the same reel on it but with 12 lb. line of the same type as well.  I might use this if I notice I'm missing strikes due to ripping the bait out of their mouths.  Sometimes I feel a slightly softer rod helps, and as soon as I get my crankbait rod I'm gonna give that a try to see how a M/MF or MH/MF rod does.

I use my spinnerbait setup for buzzbaits also.

I've been using a St. Croix LTBC70MF and a Zillion 7.1:1 with 12# P-Line, but really, any 6' to 7' rod will do.  I will say I'm not thrilled with the fast reel - unnecessary with Cavitrons.  Since there isn't any "detecting" the strike, the rod need only be capable of throwing the lure, and strong enough for the cover you fish.

J Francho, I know you are an accomplished bass fisherman so do you perfer to crank a fast reel slower or a slow reel faster for buzzbaits and spinnerbaits?

That's a good question, and really has nothing to do with angler skill, just a personal preference.  Here's my answer - keep in mind, I'm using a 7:1 reel - my old "high speed" 5:1 reels worked great for this in the day.  When I first got a 6:1 reel several years ago, it felt fast during the retrieve, but I liked that extra speed once a fish was hooked.  I feel the same about the burner reels.  I'll end up getting a Zillion HA and another Teaser rod for this, and use my HLA for other baits where I use the rod to move the bait, not the reel.  I just haven't taken a shine to the 7:1 reels for baits that are reeled in.

I perfer the 7.x high speed reels, especially for buzzbaits, its less turns of the handle and therefore less fatique.  I still like my 6.x reels for cranking, especially deeper crankbaits, the lower ratio provides more torque.  If I was younger and/or didnt have arthitis in both wrist (from 27 years of keyboard use in information technology), I'd probably use all 7.x reels.
