What kind of spinning rod?

Featured Replies

Hey guy's, I just got a Johnny Morris spinning reel for Christmas. I fish tournaments with my dad, and our first tournament is coming up in February. I was wanting to purchase a spinning rod before then so i could be ready to fish. The reel is more of a finesse reel, so I will probably use it for senko, shaky head, etc... So any help we be appreciated, thanks guy's.

Generally, 6 1/2' or 7' Medium Power/ Fast Action.

The St. Croix Avid AVS68MXF would be an excellent

choice.

8-)

here are my choices in order from cheapest to more expensive.

St. Croix Mojo MBS70MF Spin Rod 7' Medium

St. Croix Avid AVS68MXF (as RW mentioned)

St. Croix Xtreme XS70MF Spin Rod 7' Medium

$ St. Croix Mojo, Shimano Compre

$1/2: St. Croix Avid, Shimano Crucial

$$: St. Croix legend Elite, Shimano Cumara, Loomis IMX

I've used all, but the Cumara.  6'8 Medium X Fast or 7'0 Medium Fast would be a good start.

7'M-MH is what you'll want.

I have a 7'M Damiki Dark Angel and a 7'MH Abu Garcia Vendetta.  I wouldn't recommend the Vendetta, kinda unbalanced and heavy.  For me, the Dark Angel is everything I wanted in a good spinning rod, I use it for all contact applications.  You may want to look at the BPS Pro Qualifier as well.

One of the nicest things you can do for that reel is match it up

with a Johnny Morris Elite 6' 8 med power spinning rod (JXE68MS)

I hate to admit it, but my $200 Johnny Morris Elite is a more sensitive blank

than my $350 Kistler Helium ll LTX.

im gonna go ahead and say that shimano has a spinning rod for you that you cant go wrong with in any price range your looking for.  *shrug*

whats your price range?

cant go wrong with avids IMO

avs68mxf or avs69mlxf for the applications you mentioned

Thanks guys! I think im pushing for the avids, but ill just have to look. I'm probably going to the boat show, cant wait to see whats there.  ;)

I like the Avids too.  Fish 'em all the time.  I jumped up to a Legend Tournament Bass LTBS70MF for my spinning rod.   A few extra bucks but I want a real sensitive rod for that soft shaky head bite.

JMO.
