All Star Rods

Recommended Posts

I'm constantly browsing to upgrade my $60 Dicks' Quantum baitcast combo, without breaking the (tiny)bank. I've been pleased with Abu Garcia reels that I've come in contact with in the past, and I like the price of the Revo-S, so I've got half of my setup planned out. I've also fished with a friend's All Star rod a couple of times, and really liked the feel. The price is obviously right, but bear in mind that I'm coming from a $60 quantum combo, so I'm not so sure if the difference I felt is as much as I could be getting for around the same price. Does that make sense? I guess what I'm asking is if All Stars are a good deal, or if there's a better rod for around the same price(I see a lot of people swearing by Shimanos). I'm drooling over All Star's ASR series, in particular.

I have 6 older All star rods  , they are as sensitive as other rods at their price point and I can assure you they will take a pounding. You are looking in the $100 range where there is a lot of competition.IMO the Falcon Bucoo and Falcon original are also fine choices. I'm sure you will get other opinions but that's my 2 cents worth.

Either the 7' medium ASR(ASR-845C), or the 7'1" heavy one(ASR-857C) I'm leaning towards the heavier one, since I figure I can use my current MH-M rod for crankbaits and spinnerbaits, and maybe load the new one up with some braid and throw worms and jigs. I have a light spinning setup that I throw smaller plastics on.

I fish All Stars exclusively. Mostly older titaniums, some platinums and a couple of the team series. As sensitive as any rod out there and you're not worrying about them breaking on the hook sets. They can take a beating and keep coming back for more.

If I wasn't using All Stars, I'd definitely be fishing Falcons.

I worked in a sporting goods store for 3 years and never saw a brand come back broken as many times as All Star.  Not even close.  And we didn't even sell very many.  Of all of my serious fishing buddies, NONE use All Stars any more.  In my opinion, they are absolute garbage.

I can't help but think that the quality of All Star rods has decreased since Shakespeare bought them.  I have had issues with Shakespeare customer service, It is like you have to jump through hoops.

A fishing tackle store that I go to all the time, Rogers Lures in Liberty, Mo doesn't handle All Star rods anymore, because they are a pain in the butt to deal with.

I dont know. I had two rods break last last year and both were All STAR Spinnerbait series Zell Rowland Rods.  Both made a funny noise and splintered between the end and 2nd eye.    Id look at Falcon for similar money.
