I went down to the river today to do a little fishing. I didn't have much hope of catching anything, and I didn't. I did however launch two of my best spinnerbaits in to the river. I had strung my pro qualifier with 10 lb spiderwire. Initially I had just used the standard improved clinch knot. Well after my Strike King Spinner went across the river, I tried again. I sent a cheaper one after it about 5 casts later. I switched to the trilene knot, and launched a swimbait into the drink. Are there known problems with this line? I know its not my knots, i used the same ones on two other rods with eagle claw and zebco line.

When you learn how to cast without getting a backlash, then the amount of lost lures will decrease.

Additionally there is no need to use a superline with that small of a diameter for anything heavier than a crappie jig.

The Palomar knot is one of the very few knots that will not slip with braided line.  Its dead simple to tie, very strong (over 90% of line strength), and is also one of the only knots you need to know when fishing with braid.

With original Spiderwire you MUST use a palomar knot.  Not an opinion, but a fact.  With Stealth and some similar braids (e.g. Stren Sonic Braid) you can use the Trilene or Clinch knot.  But the older style braids (like original Spiderwire) absolutely require a palomar knot.

i use the improved clinch for braid all the time , and yes , even on spiderwire stealth with NO problems . but you didn't mention if the breakoffs happened during a backlash or if you think the braid had dug into the spool . when braid digs into the spool , it will stop the line and with the no-stretch aspects of braid , it wil cause too much stress on the line and cause it to break suddenly . i have had this happen to me using 30 lb. Power Pro throwing frogs that weigh only 1/2-5/8 of an ounce . so don't be suprised if this continues to happen . mine and probably alot of other peoples advice is to go up in line dia. , to maybe 20-30 lb. braid or use a good mono , co-poly, or florocarbon line . you didn't say what kind of reel you are using , but maybe that would help get better recommendations . as far as Spidedrwire braid goes , alot of people use it , i don't , but i doubt that it is the line but rather the user not using the RIGHT  line .....

I'm pretty sure I was using mono, as I've never bought braid. I'll have to check on the brand of mono. I can cast without backlashing. Maybe I have the tension knob too tight. Either way the knot works fine on other lines.

There are lots of knots that work well with Original Spiderwire superline-- the uni-knot is one that I have been using since the true Original Spiderwire was first introduced after the Kevlar stuff. I still have a partitial spool of the first issue of Spiderwire superline that would flatten on the reel spool and blow in the wind like a sail.

I agree, the uni knot works great, as does the palomar if tied properly. 

use heavier line.  I always have problems using braid with either the knot coming undone or the shock of getting a backlash breaks the line.  I use a trilene knot on 30lb with no problems but on a 15lb and less it tends to slip.

wet and make sure the 2 lines are not on top of each other before you tighten down the palomar

Braids are apt to slip, so a knot that cinches on itself is important. Uni and Palomar are good. IME Clinch knots eventually slip.

As to your problem, my only thoughts are that you used too heavy a SB and cast too abruptly with it, and/or you got a bad spool of line -which can happen.
