Ok so after using Powerpro from the beginning I am gonna change it up a bit and be open minded on different brands of braid. I will not use Spiderwire stealth though I have used that once (gift from a friend)  I personally thought it was junk

So what do you guys recommend. I will be using this for a t-rig, carolina rig, just mainly soft bait stuff. Actually soft baits only. I do a ton of t-rig stuff with the set up I have. I am swaping my blackmax out for a citica 200E. I wanna go with 20lb braid or so. We have a ton of man made structure we put out in the lake and I wanna get them out as quick as possible. And abrasion resistance.

I share the same opinion as you on Stealth.

I've been using Sufix Performance braid for a couple years now. Obviously, the only down side I've had with it is sub-freezing temps. 

You using the moss green ? I only use that mainly.

I believe they call it low vis green. But yes, that's what I use.

No, its right.  20# braid is for a spinning outfit.

X2 on the sufix performance braid, I like it better than power pro.  I like the lo-vis green color, works really good for me. 

Sounds Like Sufix Performance Is the way to go right now.

as i've said a million times on this forum,powerpro is outdated.it was once the best braid but is no more.there are 2 braids that far outshine the others at this point and they would be diawa samurai braid and fireline's new 8 strand braid.both are excellent but i prefer the fireline because it has more body which = less tip wraps.

I switched from power pro to Sufix performance braid & have never looked back. I use the low vis green with a maxima ultragreen leader for visibility/abrasion  situations. The suggestion to move up in line diameter is worth considering for a bait caster.

So does the fireline only come in black? I would rather have it in green if I could just so it blends better in the water IMO

What is the claim to fame with the 5 strands? Rounder or stronger or something of that nature?

Stay away from the old black fireline. Get the green stuff that dodgeguy posted a picture of.

with 20 lb. braid or smaller , the more "soft" the line is the more your succeptible to wind knots and having the line wrap around your rod . haven't you ever noticed that when power pro is new (and stiff) that you don't get the wind knots ?? but when it softens up you start to get them ??? if you want a soft line that is the trade off . i myself prefer a stiffer line , if you do too , check out some different braids like Cortland Master braid http://www.cortlandline.com/products/default.asp?id=517 and if you want more reading on braid - http://www.cortlandline.com/content.asp?id=709  hope this helps

Stren Sonic Braid is by far the best casting, limpest and most manageable braid I have used in the last 20 years.

I used PP for about 4 yrs just recently I switched and tried Suffix Braid IMO Suffix is better smoother casting and stronger ties better knots too

Their mono is excellent also. Period. End of story.

If you get suffix DO NOT get 20# I made the mistake of getting a bulk spool of it and am constantly getting wind knots and snapping the line on the hook set. I would say go with 30# or even 50#.

ps I have checked my line guides, its not that and the line is snapping anywhere between the knot and 10 feet up, thankfully since i was able to get my lure back a couple times.

Interesting. I've gotten the wind knots with 20# test but only when the temps are below 32. I've experienced the line snapping before when fishing the river running cranks over rock ledges but not very often. It is hard to tell from time to time with braid when you have a weak spot. Rocks and braid do not get along real well. I've even landed walleye and a couple muskies on this line. Not doubting you kms, just throwing my experiences out there too.

if you have never heard of Cortland Master braid , if you know some guys that fish for muskie , ask them , i would say 75% of them love the stuff and will not use anything else . it is also is one of the best braids for throwing big baits ( muskie guys throw HUGE baits with this braid cause it is that good !)

"more body"= not as limp IME

I have used Sufix and PP and I honestly liked both very much. Never had breakage issues with either. Both were easy to manage.

Tackle Tour compared three braids (including Sufix which is an 8 strand braid at 50lb test and greater) and Sufix got the highest rating. It is also the cheapest of the rated lines.

Personally, I would never put 20lb braid on a casting reel. Would you put 6lb test mono on your reel? Probably not, so why put braid with the same diameter on there? Go up to 50-65lb braid with the diameter of 12-15lb mono. The heavier braid is stronger, easier to manage, and I believe easier to cast on casting reels.

I just gave fireline a try, and I don't like it at all.  I've been using 30lb PP but I am definitely switching back to PP and moving up to 50lb.
