The Rod/Reel setup you are happiest with

Featured Replies

It would be a toss up.  I love the feel of my 6'6" Browning Midas/Fuego combo.  It is exteremely well balanced (just below the foregrip, and light.  But I have a soft spot for a modified Abu Garcia 4600 c3 (now a c6) on a 7' St. Croix Premier MHM.  The bg round reel casts great, and is just so much fun to wield.

Love?

Bucoo 7' MH /CitcaE

I have 3 dobyns rods but have not had them long enough to call it love

Mine is easily my 6'6" Allstar 785 custom, made by me with the help of flechero, it was my first build.  I use it for flippin/pitchin heavy cover with t-rigs and jigs.  A Revo S-L is on it spooled with 50lb Power Pro.  With this setup I have no issues pulling fish from the thick cover I normally fish.  Wouldn't trade it for anything!  Caught my PB (avatar pic) with it.  Pulled that baby right in!

Favorite right now is my spinning setup, Avid 6'8"MXF with a Stradic CI4 2500.  Trying to get better with baitcasters, and of the ones I have, my fave is my Legend Elite 6'6" with a Curado 201E7.

St. Croix Avid AVC70MHF with Revo SX and 12# p-line flouro-clear. I love it for spinnerbaits! I'm gonna wear this thing out! LOL

Crankbait: Powell 704CB with Quantum Energy PT 6:3:1, Sufix Fluorocarbon line (10 or 12 lb)

I really like my Falcon Lowrider LFC-5-168S "Angler of the Year" rod paired a Citica 200E and 10# 100% Berkley Flourocarbon.  I have used this rod and reel for spinnerbaits, texas rigs, jigs, and square billed crankbaits and it seems to work great with all of them.

Shimano Stradic 2500

Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra soft

However I just bought a g loomis IMX 782 and put my new Stradic Ci4 on it. Can't wait to try it.

That's a difficult question because the set up for large mouth vs. small mouth are so different. The set up I use the most, month in and month out is a Lamiglas Certified Pro XFT764 and I just updated them from Revo SX's to Revo Premiers. I always carry two, one with a creature bait and one with a jig. Line is YoZuri Hybrid 20 LB.

Baitcasting: Carrot Stix LTX-6'6"MHF / Revo Premier / 17# BPS Excel Mono

Spinning: BPS CarbonLite 7'0 MF / BPS Johnny Morris / 8# XPS Flourocarbon

G.Loomis  MBR782c

Chronarch 100D7

Sufix Siege 10lb

Spinning: Shimano Symetre 2500 with 14# Trilene XL low-viz green on an All-Star Titanium 6'6" M/F rod. Cheap combo, but it works great. The reel's the smoothest I've ever used and the rod is plenty sensitive for throwing plastic.

Casting: I only have one rig right now, it's even cheaper than my spinning rig. ;D Daiwa ProCaster Rojo 100HL with 17# Trilene XL on a Shimano Sojourn 6'6" M/F rod. I'm impressed with the reel so far, it casts a mile if I need it to but works well for flipping as well. The rod seems decent for such a cheap rod, but right now I'm just using the rod mainly as something I can use while I'm getting my baitcasting mojo back, and once I really get into using my baitcaster again I'll get a better rod and use the Shimano as a spare. My dad has a G.Loomis Bronzeback casting rod that he hasn't taken out of the package since he bought it a couple years ago, and I'm trying to talk him out of it, but so far he doesn't want to sell it.
