Went to the launch party for the loomis NRX last night at my local dealer and had a great time! Couldn't resist the free costa Del Mar glasses and sick rod! Picking up the 7' 5" m/hvy extrafast version soon, now I need to pick out a reel. Between Core, Chronarch, Curado, and Premier. Also would like to put a nice all around for flippin, pitchin, and casting 14# fluoro on there... hook me up, what should I do.

They had one there with a castaic on it that seemed a bit bulky for the rod, and one with a Core 100 which was awesome and felt like a feather, but this is going to be my longest/strongest rod in my arsenal for fishing heavy cover and wasn't sure if the Core would hold up to the abuse, I see they have one in a flipping vrsion and this is probably what I would consider.

The Wildcard replacement is a one time free replacement deal, no questions asked for the life of the rod!

I want lots of comments and recommendations to sift throug... let's get started!

Of the reels you listed, I would go with either the Curado or Chronarch for heavy cover. If you liked the Core 100, you will probably like the Chronarch, as it is an aluminum version of the core. It will weigh a bit more, but at 7.6 oz I do not consider it to be heavy by any means.

Go with a Zillion! it will look sharp on that rod and feel very nice! Ive got them on the way done paid for just waiting on my dealer to get them! should be here monday I bought a 803C, 854C and the 893C like you are getting yesterday. I should have mine on Monday I will take some pics with some TD-Z's and Zillions on them and post them on this page so you can see how nice there gonna sit on it! My dealer had none in stock for the release yesterday and I havent got to touch one.. he said his shipment will be in monday but IDK and I really want to touch the rod lol

i'd say go with the core or a steez,its the 'highest end" loomis rod.i would want to keep it as light as possible.worst that happends is you need to replace a gear in 5 or more years.well worth the weight you will save IMO.

I agree with this.. and two of mine will end up with TD-Z Type R's on the or maybe one with a Steez and one with a R IDK yet... I said the Zillion because of the Price range of what he was talking about in reels.... Im sure my Steez will feel really good on the rod! I will let you know and post some pics so you can see how it sets on it

get a core it will hold up fine, very sturdy gears. don't let the light weight fool you it's a beast!

thanks for the recommendation, the core is a strong possibility at this point as I loved the way the rod felt with it on it at the release party. I like my shimanos, but haven't had experience with the daiwas.

Don't weigh that rod down with an anchor.  Get the Premier or older Chronarch, if you can find one.

In my opinion, this is a no brainer. The Shimano Core 100MgFV would fit perfectly on that rod (I know it does on my GLX version of that rod) and this version of Core has a brass main gear (instead of aluminum), which allows you to wrench fish out of cover without worry of stripping the gear.

i own the core MgFV mounted on a power tackle flippin stick rod and i love it.. the core is the best choice imo you wont regret it

I don't think you could go wrong with either.  I have both the Steez and the Core and if you plan on just fishing open water to light/moderate cover, then the Steez would be a great choice.  If you are planning to fish any heavier cover, I would get the Core 100MgFV.  The Steez may have the power to wrench bass out of heavy cover, but I have never felt comfortable doing so (just didn't seem to feel as powerful as the Core FV)

I see you've already ordered it/going to order it.. but I'm still gonna throw my opinion in.

The Core doesn't hold a lot of line, and you probably don't need a lot of line since you're going to do mainly Flipping/Pitchin', but I'd still want something bigger with more line capacity.

The Revo Premier with 20lbs of drag fit the bill. It would have been my choice.

Still have not ordered, though leaning towards Core MgVF7. Now after reading the fluoro shootout on TT I am rethinking my line choice. Probably either CXX or Hybrid. Those have been my two favorites so far, though the CXX has been a little tougher (abrasion resistance) for me. Still looking for comments!

I respool very often (at least every two weeks) so break offs and rerigging shouldn't come into play.

I have a Revo SX and it is not my favorite reel it takes more tuning to cast perfectly than my shimanos, especially with weightless plastics which I will throw often with this rig. The premier may be different, but it looks very similar. My Black Max from WalMart and the SX perform the same for me

Yes ,  you don't need as much line when fishing for bass and unless you are fishing tournaments every week , you don't need to change your line every two weeks.

Change your line "as needed".

Whatever reel you choose, make sure you post pics as no doubt it will be some serious eye candy.

Just letting you know... The PX68 makes a FINE pitching reel... and you will love the Zonda.. since you was looking at the JDM route you arent gonna find anything else that will pitch with PX68.

I am changing line often because I fish very often and am rough on line as I am new to this sport! Two weeks is about average for now bit I am starting to make it last a little longer! I also like to try new lines:)
