Hey guys... I could use some help picking out my "final" spinning set up to round out my arsenal. The majority of my fishing is done in gin clear water, so I probably throw finesse gear 75% of the time. I already have spinning rods designated for drop shot, wacky rigging, and flukes, so I am looking for a versatile workhorse rod to throw grubs, worms, and other plastics with 1/4 oz or lighter darterheads/T-rigs or even light Carolina rigs.

My current spinning line up:

-Mojo 68MXF Wacky with Soron STX (actually love that set up despite many mixed reviews on the Mojo)

-Lamiglas XL with Shimano Sonora for flukes (may be upgrading the reel soon)

-G. Loomis DSR 822 S with a Shimano Stradic (love the IMX blank)

I like to be able to just see a different looking rod on the deck and pick it up knowing what it's rigged with as opposed to having a number of rods from the same line up, so I'm pretty much open to anything in the $100 to $250 range regardless of manufacturer. I know a lot of you guys love the Avids and the Legend Tournament rods from St Croix are also intriguing, but the Shimanos and IMX rods are also catching my eye. I wouldn't mind saving a bunch of $$$ either on a hidden gem... any ideas??? Thanks!

Is $100-$250 limit for the entire combo, or just the rod?

GP- $100-$250 for the rod... combo would have to stay below $450 or my wife would come unglued.

KY... that combo does look sweet and I imagine it's every bit as good as it looks.

RW... I haven't looked into Dobyns rods before, so I might have to go to BPS or Fishermans Warehouse to check them out in person. By different than the others I just meant that I didn't want another rod from the exact same series. I thought for sure you'd recommend an Avid.

   

I have an LTBS70MF and it is absolutley phenomenal.  My other spinning rod is a GLX and I do love it but as far as versatility goes the St Croix absolutely destroys the GLX. 

  If you like that Mojo, man you will absolutely fall in love with the Legend Tournaments.  The Mojos are all bulit very similarly to the LTB's-same actions, same lengths, same split grips. 

  But everything on the LTB is better. The guides are Fuji Alconites, and the reel seat is a better Fuji seat than that of the Mojo. The graphite is SCIV, has a higher strain rate, and is much lighter.  It has ART and IPC tooling which are pretty sweet technological advancements exclusive to St croix that translate to sick durability and fishability.  Look ART+IPC tooling up if you are interested, its impressive.

I saw a Bass Pro Shop rod with a 60 Million Mod. Blank. That's the same rating as the top St. Croix and it only $100.

My question is would it have the same senitivity?

Lol yeah I did sound like a commercial didn't I? I have no affiliation with St Croix (I wish) but their rods are awesome. I have a Daiwa Tierra 2500 on it. Color and balance match the rod perfectly.

I bought mine on ebay two years ago for around 185$ brand new. The sellers name is wfishngame. He sells all models of St Croix and can get you a deal below retail for sure.

No. Modulus refers to the strain the blank can take before breaking. But the question comes to the blank graphite material. While BPS has a 60 million mod rod, it probably is just a 60 mod feeling blank(Kinda sensitive and can take very higher strains). While St.Croix has most likely developed a Super-sensitive(Say of a regular 90-100 million mod) graphite, that still has the strain of 60 million mod. If you fish the two side by side, they're will be a huge difference.

Not even close. I've owned and fished with those 60 Million Modulus BPS rods (Extreme), and IMO they're not even comparable to the cheapest St. Croix rods in sensitivity or weight. They're not bad rods, but definitely not in the same league as any St. Croix offering.

Dobyns 702 or 703 depending on how heavy of baits you want to throw and go up to.

I have a Powell 703 mef rated 1/8 to 1/2. Also have a Avid 7' mlf. Use the Avid mainly for drop shot and 1/4 and less on t rig plastics. Super sensitive. Powell is more versitle senkos flukes t rigs shaky heads and good on c rigs. Powell nice rod with Dobyns being slightly less tip heavy. Powell rated xf tip and Dobyns fast tip. Never used the Dobyns but to me in the store it seemed the Dobyns tip faster. I would take a close look at an Avid AVS 70mf or the LTBS70mf
