Had 30lbs today and my dad had 14lbs in our club tournament. Our best 5 combined was 33lbs. I had 3 fish between 7- 10lbs jump off. My big fish i caught was 9.5lbs.  Lots of tournaments coming up, but

  • Well two days in & only 3 fish ?   But one was tagged BassCashBash which I was registered in, it won me a 2019 Dodge Ram!

I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

I will be there with you ;)

I have a club tourney there next weekend, hoping to find something in the Negreet area as we will be staying in slaughter creek. If not it's south for me..

Thanks guys that is the pattern i us myself and have always done well. just wanted to get some input to see if there may be something i might be missing out on. im working the next two weekends so will not be at the Best 6 i fish alot during the week days so if you guys want to PM or email me i will share the info i have good luck to you guys

Why not?

Although they don't show on maps they will show up on depth finders :)

yes your right and I definitely keep an eye out for them, but 2 of the one's we found we were passing in the boat lanes heading for a location on the map and could see the top of the ridge barely under the surface. They were not in relation to any visible structure and both were smack in the middle of some stump fields.

only 1 did we actually use the map to find.

Here's my annual report:

We (5-6 guys average) fished March 24 afternoon to April 2 evening. 1-2 boats mostly and sometimes 3. Areas fished were Arnold (lots of grass) - & Lowes Creek (Lots of timber & grass). Indian Mounds, Harper, Negreet, Yokum & Pirates were alll hit atleast once.

Colder north windy days (5-10mph) produced the best for us - Calm warm cloudy or sunny days were slower. We are top water lovers so those baits get an unfair advantage. The Chugbug outperformed the rogue. The wacky outperformed texas style. Colors for soft plastic (Black/Blue laminate & Watermelon black pepper). Best numbers of bites came when boat was in 6-8' water throwing to bank or to deeper water. Bites came in bunches (everyone would hook up in a 15-20 minute stretch then nothing for a hour or so). Big fish (2) were about 7 pounds with a couple of more in the 6 pound range.

Total bass(including short fish) for the trip caught 298. Total keepers were 138. We don't keep anything close to 5 pounds.

On the last Saturday we caught a ton of fish in the Arnold Bay grass using swim baits (skinny dipper in Houdini color). Absolute blast. I personnaly did catch any keepers but my partners and other boats caught 4-5 keepers each in a 1 hour stretch before sunset.

Like others have posted you can throw topwater all day and get bites or swirls. I did manage to lose my personal best at the boat. In Pirates Cove I had a huge topwater hit on popper that I had just re-tied to remove a nick near the bait. She hit it and made a couple of runs before i finally got here to the boat - she then did a figure eight for a while before spotting us in the boat. She then did what my partner descibe as a Nemo and went straight down pulling drag - the next thing I notice is how hard she's pulling and it snapped above the bait. Made my stomach hurt. I have know idea how big the fish was. But when one of you guys catch her with that little Yozuri Popper send me a picture.

We had great weather all week long and even with the low water we never hit any stump when we didn't want to. I actually like being able to see the boat lanes - just remember to idle to your spots when out of the lanes.

Hope this helps other people find their fish:

Negreet - very little grass and not many fish caught

Yokum - spotty grass - not many fish caught

Lowes - stumpy & grassy - lots of fish (don't have to stay in fingers hint-hint)

Arnold - biggest grass flat we found thanks to earlier poster - tons of short fish.

Harpers - good grass and a few good bass

Pirates - Only fished half a day (not much grass or bass)

I caught plenty fish on that skinny dipper in that same color..I only spent a little time in Arnold and loved the grass and threw that dipper in there quite a bit but did not catch a fish. Nice to know they are there!

Are there any launches that dump you directly into Arnold?

Good report Shannon...glad to see yall caught some fish and some big uns' at that!! I wont be able to get back to Toledo until Thursday, April 28th. I got a tourny on Cotile this weekend (not looking forward to it), then Ill be a Fork the 13th-16th, then a weekend home with the wife (so she will continue to let me fish lol) then finally back on the Bend. Im hopin the topwater bite is good then, cuz I love to catch em on toads and Chug Bugs!

Skeet22, I went to Negreet a few weeks ago and didnt do anything. I couldnt find grass and you know if it aint grass it aint bass. Ill be down around Six Mile Thursday the 28th and probably North somewhere the 29th. Good luck to yall in the Best 6. I hope yall come in 2nd (haha)!

I hope we come in second too! I will scratch negreet off my scouting list. They are eating chug bugs, toads, and buzz baits now! Post spawn fish should be more willing to bite by the time we get there so the bites should pick up a little. I will be starting in Arnold throwing a spro frog in all that grass! Going to shoot across and check out Lowes also. Pirates produced some good fish for us but there is not much grass there either. Most of our fish came off of wood there.

Lowes has grass and I know two weeks ago it had a TON of fish on beds. Those fish are still there, they have just backed out a little on points and the first break line. I know the Top Six two weeks ago was won around Bug Island on C-Rigs, so I will be checking a few main lake structures as well. Good luck to yall! What club are you fishing with?

Can anyone tell me where United Bay is?

We ran into a couple fishing a small aluminum bass boat ~16' with a 50hp, that told us they we catching over 20 small (short bass) in United Bay. We talked to them in the cove just south of Negreet (but above Esto- Big Bass). They were throwing rattletraps. I seem to remember my friend from Slaughter creek talking about United Bay but we could not find it on the map.

We filmed most of our normal fishing spots that were high & dry with our phones. This should help us next year when the water comes back up to normal.

Enjoy the Bend - My gang now cuts all the bass baits off for storage and starts tying on popping corks and gold spoons...

Look out cocodrie here we come.....

I could be wrong, but I think United Bay is the bay on the southern bank at the mouth of Lannan. I dont have my map in front of me right now, but I think that I remember seeing it there.

United Bay is the first bay to the south (right) as you enter La Nana

catt, is Kites the closest launch to yocum? and is it big bass that dumps you directly into Arnold?

Big bass is just north of Arnolds. Kites and Big Bass are about the same distance from Yocum with BigBass having a better launch. i think you have to have a camp at Kites to launch may want to call check before you go!

Thanks! I could have swore I seen a ramp in Arnolds but cant figure out which one it is. Maybe it was a private ramp..

Arnold’s bay is located at the mouth of Yocum creek, Yocum bay is what they call the back of Yocum creek. Keep in mind what is listed on maps today aint what the locals & ole timers call em!

The first creek north of youcum I was calling Arnold. This is where I found the matted grass which was the thickest I had found in all 4 days. What is the proper name for this creek?

The whole area from the point on the north side of Arnold’s creek cove down to the point on the south side of Yocum creek cove on the main lake was called “Arnold’s Bay”. It has since been subdivided into Arnold’s Bay, Arnold’s creek cove, Yocum’s bay, & Yocum’s creek cove. There is a creek between Arnold’s & Yocum’s of which I can not remember the name.

i think the creek you are talking about is Diamond Creek there is a launch in the back of it but it is private for the community only.
