So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?

Featured Replies

I always fill up before I get to the lake so im not sure about gas. there is a store on the way to Anacoco on hwy.392 and hwy. 111. you can get Ice and tackle and such there. Pirates cove has a restaurant that serves Breakfast lunch and dinner. the phone number is (318)565-4467 and they will prepair to go orders. I don't know anything about the liquor or the Bass Haven resort except that it looks really old. Not sure about playing in the water or skiing but you can go down to the dam and look around. as far as site seeing the Canadian Geese are down all over the lake and i have been seeing several Bald Eagles around Pirates Cove and Kites Landing quite often.

Well I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, that is a good start :) I didnt want to hijack this thread, but I guessed you guys would have the best up to date info!

I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

Ya aint hijacking nothing ;)

I can tell ya about the Texas side, I don't go to Toledo to water ski.

U can drive to hwy.6 and 191 intercection and there s a mexcian eat that's pretty good and other store' s near corner that has everything.also a couple seafood eats near bridge but we also op for the mex..

To cold for water avtivity.lol

The seafood buffet at the restaurant across the street from Toledo Tackle on Hwy 6. is awesome.  Best fried shrimp, seafood pasta, and frog legs Ive ate!

Fished this past weekend 19-20 - Windy and cold to say the least- Sat heavy stringer was 13+- Sun was 16+  -  The two top stringers came from Patroon in 5-7 ft. - It was overcast until noon on Sat. and the topwater bite lasted until then -  Red and white lunker lure worked the best. We did get a couple of fish on ribbit frogs, but were few and far between.   Threw a spinner bait for miles, never got a strike. Another boat reported catching a couple on a spinner bait.  Spent some time in Indian Mound, did catch some fish on the edge of the visible grass line over grass on a Texas rig.

Sun. real slow - very few fish caught

Dutch, while in Patroon did you try thr back of Corsey Creek?

Thanks Dutch. I am heading back up Sat. To look for some humps and ridges out around texas island and up to Housen. Not sure how much fishing I wiill do just plan on riding the lake and looking for some main lake structure. I have been looking at the acme mapper (thanks catt) and think I found a few good spots I want to check out. I think the fish should be on them now. I have been wanting to learn how to use a jig and figure these humps would be good for that. I may have an open seat if anyone is interested. My partner is going to be on a deer stand like almost everybody else.

Express Kid, Mill Creek north shore, & Rickbay using Hook-N-Line map look for roadbeds & railroad beds! Find Hillside Inn? That point has boat docks!

Thanks Catt.

I ordered my Hook and Line Map Monday and hope it will be in in time for Sat. trip but if not i will use my Acme to get close and then my electronics to dial in. Thanks for the help.

Thanks, I agree too cold to play in the water, but just wanted to know for future reference.

Express Kid,

In case you don't get your HOOK-N-LINE map in time.......and you really want to have one.............

Toledo Town and Tackle usually has them in stock.

SquiggyFreud,

Pirates Cove Marina has the BEST hamburger you will find in that entire area.....................If you're on the south end of the lake, it's well worth the boatride over there or via the highways.........

I don't know ;) Fin-N-Feather has a mean burger

I had heard that..........But......the last few times I've stayed there (including April, June, and August of year) the restaurant was still closed.

The new owners supposedly were going to re-open it "sometime this fall" but I haven't had it confirmed if it has or not.

Gonna be staying there soon........so I'd like to see if you're right Catt.

Also, Catt while we have your attention and relying upon your vast knowledge of Toledo Bend...........are you aware of any particular areas that rocky bottoms or concentrations of "rock related" structures?

My guess is the typical "pre-flooded" Louisiana / Texas topography normally wouldn't have lent itself to that, but I've always wondered.

We read so many articles about fishing and patterns on lakes with rocky bottoms............but never heard any mention of this on TB.

Any comments? Anyone?

Not sure Bearonthewater. i have fished some rocks up north of the pindelton bridge area out by the chicken coops  but that was only shelfs on the river. not familure enough on the southend to help yet.

thanks for the info on Toledo town Bearonthewater.

There some areas with small amounts of rock but enough to spend time finding them.

Who ever sent me a PM please resend them. I did not get them downloaded, your information is very important to me so please resend. Thanks

Fished the bend Thursday, caught fish in Indian mounds Lowe's creek and housen, all fish were around grass of some sort, swimming a jig and throwing a Texas rig 1/2 oz it sure was windy

Thanks for tne report Shaneus I will be heading out to millcreek in the morning. I wil. Let yaw know what i find.

Catt:   I didn't fish patroon personally - That's where the 2 top stringers came from, so I don't know  the details

Fished millcreek today had three on Sk 1.5 in sexy shad color an they were hitting it until I hit my tm and broke the bill off. Used another type cb but nothing. Only thing they would hit was gold trap. Wound up with seven fish. Largest was 3.5 .

Sweet Kid!

Gold, black back, orange belly?

I was fishing a hump in Mill creek yesterday after catching a couple on a frog in Toro. I think I saw you Express. You came out to the mouth of Mill Creek and went down the grass line on the long point at the mouth that goes down by the docks. I waited about n hour and then went over there to go behind you. Then I saw you come back and turn into the grass line to go down it again. I was going to come by and say hello but, then I saw you put your trolling motor down and I didn't wanna come up to you and spook any fish you may catch. I am in a white Triton TR-20. So I went further north.

I settled in a spot in Hickory ridge next to the main lake. And it was a good spot. I got tired of catching Kentucky bass with a c-rig and positioned myself between two points and started with a jigging spoon. I lost count and my arms are tired. For about 3 hours all I did was catch fish. Largest in that spot was 4.5 lbs. in about 30 ft. of water. I left catching fish so it was a good day.
