So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?

Featured Replies

Mill Creek was clear till you get past the actual buoys. Six Mile was fairly clear from the front 2/3rds.

Had 30lbs today and my dad had 14lbs in our club tournament. Our best 5 combined was 33lbs. I had 3 fish between 7- 10lbs jump off. My big fish i caught was 9.5lbs.  Lots of tournaments coming up, but

  • Well two days in & only 3 fish ?   But one was tagged BassCashBash which I was registered in, it won me a 2019 Dodge Ram!

I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

Once again how's water in the creeks ? ;)

Spent yesterday in Housen and White Oak.  The water was beautiful, this was my first time actually going into white oak, I normally fish the mouth where the creek hits the river channel.

I caught most of my fish in Housen fishing creek bends associated with the grass beds in 16 to 18 FOW.  My primary baits were a SK 5xd and a lip less crank bait.  I would pull both baits from the creek up and over the grass beds attempting to hit every piece of wood on my way.  Most of my strikes came when I made contact with wood or the tops of the grass bed.  I did catch a few on TR but could not find a consistent bite.

Our best 5 were just over 19 pounds....caught 20+ fish total.....My 11 year old son caught his PB at close to 5#.

Nice trip ToledoMard and thanks for the report.... I'm thinking about heading up Friday. I wonder what this front will do to the bite?

The water temp was around 65 at day break and topped out around 67.  If it gets as cold as they say it will I would imagine it is going to really slow down things in the backs of the creeks.  It will probably move fish out into the creek channels and ledges.  This is a total guess, not the best at winter time fishing.

Thanks guys! ;)

Post frontal conditions will do more than the cold temps. Thursday will be bluebird skies which will let the water warm up. The rest of the week will be a warming trend.

Got to FNF, unloaded, then headed out around 4 pm for just a bit.

Water temp - 64.

Winds - NE on housen @ 12 mph.

Bait of choice - SK 5XD in gizzard shad.

Reel - A G REVO WINCH 5.4:1

Catt's Magic Water depth - 12-18 ft. Grass lines and sparse timber.

Cast no. 12. - bounced 5XD off of timber with steady retreive (just like ToledoMard928)

Bang!!! 4.6 lber.

I was the only numbskull on the water........it was quite chilly.

Fished all in all about 30 min. - no other bites.

One decent fish.......but a good start cause i wasn't sure about the cold front.

Bear

Bear, at least you caught something and a solid fish at that. I've been on the lake all day and not had a bite. Thanks for the update. I will be heading up there this Friday. Hopefully the wind will cooperate, forecast is 10-12 out of the south.

Hey bear! 30 min 1 bass 4.6# ;)

Kick some bass!!!

Not bad. You accomplished in 30 minutes what took me all day to get a 4.6.

Hey bear ya kicking bass?

If I don't get a kitchen pass soon I'm going #%@€§¥¿μ!!!!

Not much today.

Me and the duck hunters fought the winds and the cold.

Picked up a few throwback dinks.

Couldn't fish the spots I wanted as long as I would have liked.

SE winds were howling all day a whole lot more than expected.

Water temps didn't get above 63 degrees all day.

Again, I was the only idiot on Housen but I didn't feel so bad when I headed down towards Hickory Ridge.

Saw a few other bass fishermen out on the water.

According to them, not much luck either.

Water level is a bit lower than my last trip so some spots look different.

Gotta stick to the creek channel edges.

Tomorrow will be warmer so I'm looking forward to that.

Water clarity is very clear in most spots.

Hurricane very clear.

Bull creek is slightly stained.

Gonna check out oil well and lowes tomorrow.

Will post results.

Thanks to my bass resource pals, at least I've got a few new spots to hit.

Had a great trip in lowes creek this June. Started catching then pretty steady down south and have not been back. It is hard to get away from your comfort zone when you are trying to get a 11 year old on steady bites. Like bearonthewater said thanks to the guys on this thread,Toledo Bend has opened up some of her secrets to me this year.

Thanks to all

Bear, you throw worms & Jigs?

Mard, this is why I started the theard, We don't have to give away every thing about an area but we can give enough to teach.

I have been helped also and I would help anyone that needs or wants it but, I don't know too much!!

Today's catch better than yesterday.

See my gallery named Nov 2013 for my wife's pictures today.

Bald Eagle is in the big tree just south of the island at the mouth of Hurricane creek.

Don't see this every day.

Too cool!

Caught a limit today + several throwbacks.

and first of the day went 4.2 lbs.

Rest were 2 lbs to 3lbs.

SK 5XD's in green gizzard shad ripping along the grass lines near underwater points at Catt's Magic Depth.

This was the only pattern that was working for me.

Tried some camo colored rage anacondas with no luck.

Didn't throw any jigs.

Winds out is SE clipping pretty good.

Rained on me around 6:30 then skies cleared until around 3 pm.

Winds died down around mid day.

Water temps 62 at dawn warming to 65 later in the day.

More boats on the water today.

Several on Housen community flats.

Several at six mile.

Had to travel a bit so the wife could get some pics with her new camera.

She's very good at it.

Hit some points near Texas Islands with some luck.

Gonna hit it hard tomorrow but looks like winds will be picking up.

BTW just to give me a plug.........FYI the restaurant / bar at Fin N Feather is open.

Bear, thanks for the update. I will be on the water tomorrow and into the night (full moon). I will post a update Sunday. Thanks again for everyone sharing info on the Big Pond.

Great job bear!

Bet ya aint throwing the worm enough but don't change the crank is working. I aint much on crank baits my wrist will not take it for that long.

Love that crank action....Used to hate 'em but they have been nice to me this year!!!

Thanks for the report Bear!

Just a little some thing to chew on ;)

For 12-15 yrs I keep records of every tournament fished on the Bend, here's the top 3 winning baits!

Texas Rig: casting, flippn, pitching, & punching

Jig-N-Craw: casting, flippn, pitching, & punching

Deep Cranks

Choice of brand name, yours!

I need to spend a little more time with the Jig-n-craw.  Probably my weakest bait.
