Featured Replies

I fished same tourn as BF.   Started off good with my first fish at 6.5 pounds early am on yellow magic.  Thought I was on something but couldn't get but two more weigh fish for three fish at just under 13 pounds. Caught from 2 ft out to 22 ft deep.  Several small fish and a lot of white bass in the mix.  Congrats to BF on his win.

I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

I fished yesterday from daylight until 3.  Ended up winning my club tournament with 20.51lbs.  Caught tons of fish and had a blast.  My biggest was 6.89lbs.

As a newbie to bass fishing can you give us a general idea about what baits and techniques you used for this great catch? Not asking for locations other than say a ridge at 15-20', or a flat early then moved deeper, etc. type info.

Sure. I caught my fish from 18-30 ft on the end of flats and ridges.  I had 20 different baits tied on and just rotated through them to get the school fired up.

Well, I don't think I could shock a fish up right now.  I'm catching a few shallow and every now and then I must hit one in the head deep and he bites it out of anger. I'm seeing a lot of fish deep but can't get them to fire.

Just want to introduce myself, I have been reading over this forum off and on for the last 2 years and learning a lot of valuable information about this lake and how to fish it. Now actually doing it is a different story!!! lol. Thanks to everyone for all the input and information linked to this forum. Just a little info on myself, I have fished Toledo bend since I was a kid (over 20 years now) and I have always done sac a lait fishing with my grandfather and my father, but over the last several years became really hooked on bass fishing. My first year or so was spent pounding the banks, since then I have used this forum and lots of my own research to try and learn how to locate bass in the deeper water. I have had some, but little success in the deeper water. I am still fairly new to deep water fishing, I hope to see if any of the info and map study I have done will pay off in the upcoming months.

Thanks, Ryan

Same here, lately. I've been every weekend except two since duck season ended. Time for a little break and then I'll start back trying to find and catch deep fish. What I don't understand is why I can't catch more than one on the same spot?  I can't believe a 9 pounder was all alone on that point... maybe I hit her in the head, as well.

hey guys keep me in mind for the sac a lait, i am bringing some family may 13 14 15 to go crappie fishing i would like the 2 small boys to catch some on minnows. if anyone has any pointers for me i would greatly appreciate it, i would like to stay in six mile..... do i just look for them in the trees going down six mile?

If you mean "In Trees" as in brush piles, then yes. They will have plenty stacked up on the brush piles by then. Usually in depths of 18-25' of water by mid May. If you find some brush piles you will catch fish. I would try some jigs too if the shiners aren't producing for you.

Speaking of pan fish, anyone know of any bream beds/areas around six mile they wouldn't mind sharing.  I'd like to take the grandkids out and catch some.  What depth do they usually bed and best ways to catch them.

LAst year I brought my wife catch some bream and found beds in 10-12fow. Ive never caught em that deep but the water was gin clear in this cove we were fishing and I can see the honeycomb looking beds deep and flashes of fish over them. took the cork off and tight lined them. We kept 49 big enough to filet and drowned 300 crickets so no telling how many were down there.

Good day on the bend with my old man !! Caught over 50 with 5 lbs being the biggest. Caught fish deep cranking , Carolina rigging and spoons ... Fun day 12 to 25 fow.

The trip this weekend went about like I thought. We mostly fished shallow and found very few fish. Friday afternoon I did catch a 5.3# next to a dock on a Senko. We fished a hump next to the San Miguel boat lanes for 15 minutes and caught one white bass on a crank bait. We could find fish on the graph but couldn't find a way to fire them up.

Launch in any bayou or river around you and point your boat into the current, you will eventually get there.

I live in south Lake Charles & we had 8" of rain in 2 days!

Hmmmm...maybe you better use the big motor when you launch. That much water will make it tough with a paddle or trolling motor. Guessing it's what...50 miles up the Sabine from you?

I fish the Sabine but not this year ;)

Well guys, I'm just now recovering from a long weekend of fishing. Went up to Toeldo Thursday at noon to prefish for the best 6. By 3:30 I had 12 fish for 52lbs. 8.07 was my biggest. Caught her on a Carolina rig brush hog.  Friday, we caught about 75 fish, no nothing over 3lbs. Saturday the tournament begun and we caught a 5.5 and a 5 and a bunch of 2-3lb fish. Probably caught close to 100 fish total and our 12 we weighed went 37lbs which put us in 6th going into Sunday. Sunday we caught 75 fish or so, but no big bites. Only weighed in 28lbs and finished up in 10th place. Got a check to cover the weekend and had a good time, but big bites were few and far between his weekend for me.  I caught one 6lb fish on a crankbait Thursday and never got another bite on it the rest of the trip.

Nice Job, yep just needed a few big bites

B Fanatic, that's a good hurt to be recuperating from.

I'm headed up Thursday evening for maybe a week. I guess I'll concentrate on deep water with plastics and deep diving crankbaits. I'm not sure if i'll stay north of Pendleton or trailer south. Hope to post a report either during or after I go.

BF, at what depth were you fishing? I know you're fishing tournaments now. So if you don't want to say i understand. Thanks

High pressure and blue bird skies....who cares. I wish I was at the lake.:annoyed1:
