I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

Crop it with photo editor ?

Finally made it up there. Fished for a couple of days.  Fishing was not bad, not fast and furious.  No big fish.  Did catch several in the 3-4 lb range.  A good bit of 2-3 lb fish also.  Probably 20 or so per day.  One day they loved the jig, the next day it was all brush hog.  Didn't have time to explore much deep stuff.  All fish shallow, but not as shallow as I thought they would be.  It was nice to be back, it had been over a year since I fished there.

in the spirit of the amazing level of detail folks on this thread are willing to share:

we struggled mightily on Lowes Creek (Mill Creek) on Friday with only one 17-3/4" fish on a white spinnerbait and lost another good one at the boat on wacky rigged Tiki Stik watermelon red with chartruese dyed tail.  A friend had 16.1# on the exact same wacky rigged Tiki Stik but in the Indian Mounds coves.  Saturday several of us fished the same Indian Mounds coves skipping the wacky rigged Tiki Stiks up to the trunks of the cypress trees and caught better numbers.

Friday, trying to locate fish that may have pulled out I went to Housen which I've never been to before, and scanned some ridge edges next to creek channel swings directly out from what I think was Fin and Feather.  I did not see a single fish on three ridge ends.  There was small grass line at 14-15 ft deep which seems like it would've made a perfect staging area for fish moving up or down, but no other structure down there and no fish.  Anyone know where I'm talking about and any thoughts on why there may not have been fish there?

@beauxnarreaux

Great report ?

Beaux, I know exactly where you are talking about. That was my first choice the first time I went to Housen, as well. Seemed like it should have been good but it was rough on me. That and the endless humanity in the same place. Maybe that's the reason?

Fished for the first time since early February. The pattern isnt dialed or something special.  Basically I went your regular 12 year old with a boat fishing. Flipped anything and everything I could. What i figured out was watermelon magic/ green pumpkin gold flake got the most and best bites for me. Just a tip take the the plastic with the most action possible with you it helps. Also if you can get by with it go to the lightest weight possible. I know people are saying the weightless sinko bite is on but if you're like me you don't have the patience for that. Plus I went behind several groups on that pattern that were not catching and caught show them something different I guess.

Also the better fish I caught where setting up on secondary points, and on the outside of spawning pockets in 5-15 fow. I figure by the weekend these fish will be doing the dead.

Also I did see one pair about to do the dead as the Male was doing his crazy spin stuff, and also had friend tell me he saw one do that today also.

Thanks a ton for the report @operationgrass!

Day #2 my flipping bite completely died which I blame on the cloud cover. Today I boated between 30-40 best 5 was 20+ lbs all on a weightless fluke and Carolina rig except one 7lber on a frog and 2 or 3 on a jig. She kept pushing shad off of her bed and unleashed on my frog.

Best fish came out of about 5 -6 fow in scattered grass which was a mix of young hydrilla, and dollar lillies, and remember were the old bank was before that water came up also alot good stuff is being passed up by people following the new bank.

What are you running around in? I'm headed up tomorrow morning and will be in a bright blue 22' Yellowfin Flats boat with a SHO running around the area north and south of the Indian Mounds. Come on over and say hi if you see me.

What y'all think all this rain gonna do other than muddy the water in the creeks ?

I heard rumors Negreet area got 6.5"!

Besides muddy I think it could bring more shad and bluegill up shallow, more bugs/seed from run off brings more bait. Which in turn could bring staging fish with it.

Also could mean the fish get way way back in the brush to.

Fished Tuesday and Wednesday with good results. Tuesday stayed in San Miguel all day as the wind was terrible. Early morning found shad spawing on the point of a small pocket. Seemed a little early but hey take what your given. (Surprised). Shad flickering by the millions. Fish blowing up in the bushes and caught 8 -10 before the wind picked up action stopped. Frogs and chatterbaits were the ticket. Moved on to points of spawning pockets that had wind hitting them hard. Caught some pretty good fish on chatterbaits and swim jigs. Had a lull around 10 or so. Went to flipping bushes with a jaybug and started catching some better quality fish . Did try a deep spot late afternoon with fish holding on a hump the were staging and were full of eggs.

Wednesday fish San Patricio for a couple of hrs. Before the rain set in. Caught a couple of fish early on frogs. Water looked pretty good back towards the back . Not for long lol. Couldn’t get a flipping bite so started fishing cypress trees along the banks where all the camps are. Wacky senko was the ticket. Back to the drawing board now after all the rain !! Lol. All in all had a good couple of days. Couple of 5lbers and some good chunks. All released for someone else to catch .

Good report Bryan.  Good to know San Miguel has fish in it.

Say baw.  If I ever get a trolling motor on my boat I am going to head up there.  It has been windy as hell down in S. LA lately.  I can’t imagine what it has been like up there.

You're right I never came out a said it was a shad spawn bc I didn't want to jinx it but in carrice and palo gaucho both have had a small shad spawn going on also.

I struggled today as I went fish further south in hope of finding a bigger bite in indian mounds and housen. Fished all day with one 16 inch fish till I pulled up to my favorite tie up spot in indian mounds. Had the whole area to myself couldn't believe it.  Ended up catching 9 staging females on the old quilters rig. 3-5lbs. Set the boat in about 15-18 fow casting to about 4fow
