Had 30lbs today and my dad had 14lbs in our club tournament. Our best 5 combined was 33lbs. I had 3 fish between 7- 10lbs jump off. My big fish i caught was 9.5lbs.  Lots of tournaments coming up, but

I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

@Brett_Hebert ya might wanna ask @Bass_Fanatic

@Nitreaux won my first tournament sitting on top of that hump south of the boat lane!

This is a great thread with tons of info.  Nice jobs with keeping it on track and keeping the information flowing.  Now to my question - I am looking to book a lake house for the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend.

I'm looking for a place that will sleep 8+ people and is on the water with a nice area for the family to cook, maybe swim, and just generally enjoy the weekend.

I know this is a long shot considering that we are less than 2 weeks out.  I've looked at most all of the typical rental websites with limited success.  I'm hoping that you guys know of a place that would be available that maybe isn't advertised as much as some others.

Thanks again and hopefully I'll be on the lake with you guys in 2 weeks!

Try Green Acres in San Miguel or Wildwood Resort.

Just got done fishing Housen bay. What happened to all of the hydrilla? It was there back in June, but the moss flats west of Hurricane are just flats! The lily pads and hydrilla by my father-in-laws place by Fox's is all gone too. With the moss gone my fishing luck was bad, just 2 spotted bass and a dink. I saw lots of bait on the electronics and fish, but I couldn't get them to bite. My old standby was to fish the outside of the moss line, but I'm lost now. What do you guys recommend? I'm going back to try it again in 2 weeks.

@"D" I was east of Hurricane & around Fox's in June, there was grass but not matted except up near the shoreline.

Ya still find the structure, fish available grass & wood.

I've stayed at both of these places and they are both excellent choices.

Thanks - i'll give both of them a look.

I haven't posted in quite some time, but I recently had an extended trip up to The Bend. My stay was from 8/11 through 8/18. I'm not that great on Toledo Bend as I am used to fishing the shallows of the Atchafalaya basin, but I still give it hell and I'm learning. Overall, it was tough, tough fishing. A thermocline has developed and fish are holding on main lake points and humps anywhere from 15-25 FOW. No deeper than 25' (due to the thermocline). I believe the fish are primarily feeding at night and go dormant (for the most part) during the day. I had some success in the early mornings in the Six Mile area on buzz baits and frogs close to shoreline grass, and over submerged grass. Later in the day, I moved out and started graphing, finding sizable schools of fish, but they didn't want to play much. I had limited success after throwing everything but the kitchen sink at em. Catches came on watermelon/red C-rigs and 1/4 tx rig trick worms... nothing else. I know somewhere on the lake, there are more active fish. But finding them may be like finding a needle in a haystack. Night time tournaments out of the place I was staying are weighing 20-25 lbs to win. My advice is to fish at night until we are blessed with some cooler weather.

I was on the lake the same time as you and I agree with everything you said. You can see a lot of fish, but they didn't want to bite anything I used. My best luck was also at night.

I also agree with what Catt said about having some grass in Housen in June, but what I saw back then is now missing. Any idea what killed it/or ate it? I've been fishing TB since the early 80's and I've never seen anything like this.

That seems to be the theme lately.  Fish are there but they won't eat.  Guess I need to buy some more stuff from tackle warehouse until I find something they want.

Texas Rig, Jig-n-Craw, & Carolina Rig for plastics

Deep diving crankbaits ?

So I'm probably fishing the big kayak tournament there in October after I get back from Afghanistan.  Hoping I can put some of what I've learned here to good use.  Thank you all so much for the quality info.

Hey guys, just wanted to let y’all know that I have two dates in the September open (7th and 14th) and 3 in October open (5th, 12th, and 26th). Pm me if your interested in a trip.  September and October are two of my favorite months of the year!

I'd love to, but current pre-fishing rules don't let us fish with a guide on waters 30 days prior.  :(

So who needs someone to fish Toledo with them lol. Haven't been in a while. Stayed close to home on calcasieu which has produced

I cannot wait to wake up early Saturday morning and hit the lake then come in and watch the LSU game.

Football is that what girls do that don't fish and hunt?

I might put the tracker in this weekend and go find me a big school of dinks and work my arms out ripping lips with the old crime and black back trap.

No, that's what old crippled people played before they fished and hunted ?
