We fished for about an hour this morning before we loaded up and never got a bite

Bad wind today. Glad you at least caught a couple fish.

It's good to see someone catching fish at LaCygne.

 

I'm new to this forum and this is the first summer I have kept my boat near LaCygne.  I'd like some other lakes to fish around the area if anyone has any recomendations.  So far i've hit up Miami County, Middle Creek, and Pleasanton. 

fortscott isnt terribly far south of p town and if u get real brave hit up bonecreek just about 5 more miles south of fortscott but fortscott is usually good spring and fall on jerkbaits and shaky heads and spinnerbaits too and jigs and big worms and everything lol cranks bla bla its a good lake

Not sure if many on this forum are interested, but caught 70 plus white bass at Hillsdale Saturday afternoon.  Water was down to 68 degrees and the baitfish were on the move with the high winds..

Sounds like the fishing was tough at the fall classic but a good time was had nonetheless.  I was cracking up over the razor clam nazi jokes.  Maybe if you showed up with a nice gift like this book she'd 'go a little easier'.

 

 

 

 

I sure havent got out nearly as much as I'd like but i have squeezed in a few hours during weeknights.  It always seems crazy to drag the whole rig out to the lake for 2 hours of fishing but when i'm out there it's all worth it.

 

 

I've been the most luck lately with shad colored crankbaits and jigs.  I'm spotting the most bass about halfway up the creek arms, staging right around 10ft deep.  Hitting the green vegetation and staying away from the stuff that is dying off has also been good for me.  Dams and rocks dont seem as good to me as they are during summer.

 

Anyways, that's my $.02   Keep the lines tight.

 

 

Looking for some quick advice.  I don't fish often around KC or Olathe specifically but want to get out this afternoon or tomorrow morning.  My son is going with me and I just want to catch some bass size not required. Where should i go?  Killcreek, Lonestar, Douglas County, Gardner are all places I have not been to. (If it's not too windy)

 

Love seeing the LaCygne thread.  That's where I fish 90% of the time I go out.

If you really just want to catch fish go to Douglas State Lake in Baldwin City. It's LOADED with dinks and rarely a bigger fish. Basshunter0731 and I took his 5 year old out there this summer and his son caught 21 bass his first time out in the boat. 100 fish in a day is not really that difficult if they're biting a little bit.

Thinking of taking my 9 year old nephew tomorrow to Douglas just to get on some numbers.  What baits did you use that were easy for a five year old?  Any areas better than others?

Wacky rig is the way to go for kids, pinch the barb down for you and the fish because he's sure to deep hook a few. For me the areas around the rock fishing piers and the dam. I've done well on cranks and they'll work for him too but then you have to worry about a set of trebles flying around the boat.

Forgot to report my short Friday trip. Went to Cedar Creek by myself in the gale force winds and expected I would be the only one dumb enough to be out, I was wrong! 4 other boats already on that little lake didn't inspire much confidence. Ran into skunked_again out there, surprised we haven't crossed paths sooner. One guy out there said he'd caught a 4 pounder and a couple smaller fish. I didn't get a single fish pitching the banks like I normally do. Caught a fish my first cast on a RES, figured I was doomed from there. Ended up with 5 dinks, the one on the RES and 4 on a homemade black and blue chatterbait. Bites were very light, just stopped the blade from vibrating. Water was a little clearer than normal for out there it seemed but still pretty dirty. Tried to get back to the creek and bridge at the east end, not happening! even in my boat with minimal gear in it. 

A little embarassed to post the results from yesterday at DSFL.  Caught fish pretty consistently early on the wacky rig, then bite seemed to die off as the north wind picked up.  Dam didn't produce that well, but the rocky piers held most of our fish.  Only put 10 fish in the boat between three of us.  My nine year old nephew boated four and my wife and I each boated three.  He had fun, so mission accomplished. 

 

If I were to go back tomorrow, I would throw a frog or buzzbait across the shallow weeds.  Had a couple of nice bites, and then broke my really nice buzz bait off on this same rod that I must've lost $50 worth of baits on this year.  Something is catching the line and causing it to break when I cast that I need to figure out.

 

Marked a ton of brush and rock piles?? that were put in on that one bank before they refilled it.  Caught a single crappie trolling off of those with crappie jigs.

Melvern clown stomped us today. without question the biggest waves ive seen in a boat. 7 smallies and god knows how many whites. 1 large mouth.

Went to LaCygne today. The plant wasn't pumping out hot water so I figured it was going to be tough all day. And I was right. My wife and I caught 10 total. The highlight was a 18.25" 3.80 lb largemouth caught on me shaky head. All the fish either came on a Ned rig or shaky head.

Went to LaCygne today. The plant wasn't pumping out hot water so I figured it was going to be tough all day. And I was right. My wife and I caught 10 total. The highlight was a 18.25" 3.80 lb largemouth caught on me shaky head. All the fish either came on a Ned rig or shaky head.

No worries, it was about the same for us yesterday and they were pumping water.

We didn't count but we might have had close to 20 fish between the two of us, with nothing big to show for it. I had one that would've probably gone well over 4 hop off of my squarebill.

 

Rattlebaits and jointed swimbaits worked best. Slower presentations did not work AT ALL.

that was the extent of my work that day.  that ol man caught that bigger fish about 50 yards behind our boat. no idea how he was fishing a C-rig in that wind.1 oz weight maybe? i did well on a lizard and lipless crank.

Thanks for posting that, I was wondering if that ramp was closed.  Thinking about heading out there this weekend and always launch from there.

The Marina ramp is ACoE ramp too. Might better be prepared for it to be closed.

Curt and I hit LaCygne earlier this week. Fishing was steady all day, the bait I pounded all day with the most success was a lipless crank. Caught some decent largemouth, probably 20-25, 5 in the 3 lb range. Nailed the outlet with that lipless and it was nonstop action, probably caught 50-70. The best was a 5-12. I didn't weigh the other decent one.
