sinking minnow
Spain. The problem here is that much more people use to eat small basses and in the most of the county basses haven 't got minimum sized. We have northern largemouth "salmoides micropterus micropterus" but in some lakes on Portugal Southern there ara floridanus.

Super User T-rig Posted October 3, 2007 Super User Share Posted October 3, 2007 Switzerland. I think bass fishing is most popular in Italy followed by France, Portugal and Spain. Bass stocks are dropping quite a bit since most people eat the bass they catch. In Switzerland the size limit is only 20cm (approx. 8") which is a joke! I have seen people with bags full of baby bass. Morocco is supposed to have some big bass.
kumari
i am seeking any bass fishermen from spain, particularly any who may have attended the seminar and demonstrations by American Terry Seagraves that was associated with the Eurobass Cup was held September 25th and 26th, 2007 at the reservoir of Ricobayo (Zamora, Spain). I am a newspaper reporter in Orlando, Florida. Thanks, kumari kkelly@orlandoentinel.com (you can email me there.)

achigas
Portugal, Popularity measured by "percentage of population fishing for bass" is i believe still unknown, but it can also be measured by other indicators such as: Competition Level: For what i know Portugal, Spain and Italy are the only European countries to have official Bass Fishing National Championships. In Portugal and Spain there are "boated" and "from the shore" championships in Italy i don't know and in France the National Championship is not Bass specific as other species are also fished. Italy, Spain and Portugal host important International Bass Fishing events. The FIPS Bass Fishing World Championship held for the past 3 years has representatives from Portugal, Italy, Spain and France. Other countries like Russia (fishes in Cyprus), Mexico, USA and others have had 1 or 2 participations as well. Past winners were Portugal 2005, Italy 2006 and current title holders Spain 2007. Press Coverage: Italy is i believe the only country in Europe to have a "Bass fishing only" regularly published and publicly available magazine. Portugal, Spain and France have generic fishing publications. Overall i believe Italy is the European country where the sport is more developed followed closely by Spain and Portugal. P.S. - Contrary to what is thought there is no "Floridanus" fishery in Portugal or Spain at least not in public waters.

MaxDal
Max from France.... I have hear rumors of Micropterus salmoides floridanus in Portugal as well... but I really do believe that these are mere speculations! But I would love to have Floridanus closer ... like say Morocco sounds like a good country. They have them in South Africa, .. Ok Africa is quite big... but hey Morocco could be the european equivalent to Mexico !

MaxDal
Yop pretty sure of that one ! Can check though. But I think the bass in Morocco came from France in the first place. Plus the only countries in Africa where Florida-strain largies were imported are South-Africa and Zimbabwe according to my knowledge. I've heard some rumours about that too but I was there last weekend and everything we caught was northern strain. So was every other bass caught by friends or other fishermen on local FB groups. I'll definitely post a pic if I catch a Florida strain LMB!

The only knowledge I have about florida strain in Portugal is that in the 1990's there was a controled introduction in two small impoundments near Lisbon by the Agronomy Institute, after a very tough negotiation with the Nature Conservation Institute...to my knowledge, there were no more floridanus introductions in other places in Portugal

But we've seen very impressive sizes for northern strain fish these last few years.
