Where are all the Illinois Guys ?

Featured Replies

What?!?? I was going to make my first trip to Clinton this next weekend. I know it's a bigger lake and hopefully 25 bass were about the only ones to die but from the sounds of things, that seems unlikely. Someone please let me know if it has cooled down / is still worth the trip from the Chicago burbs. Feel free to message me but I will return to this thread...thanks

It will be worth it- temps are normally pretty high so most should be able to take it.

I was able to sneak out the other night after getting the kids to sleep and ran into a new PB! 6lbs 3oz at a little lake by my house. I found an offshore weedline in about 10ft of water on my portable

Kinda rough weather in northern IL today but I've been on this 3-day weather pattern the last couple weeks (fishing the 3rd day of warm day/warmish night trend) and today is the target day. I decided

Anyone fish carlyle or Rend much- preferences? May take a 2-3 day trip down there to camp and not sure which to go to. Thanks.

I know Rend has some really nice size bass in it but they can be hard to catch... I don't know much about carlyle.

Hi all,

I'm from Posen which is a south suburb of Chicago. I've been shore fishing for a while, but just got a kayak this past weekend. It's extremely fun and is a ton easier to locate fish. The pic is from powderhorn caught on a spinner bait. Caught a handful of northern, too, but no size to them.

Anyone have other suggestions on where to take the yak? I'm thinking about learning wolf lake and busse. My main shore fishing lake was Heidecke but I can't take my kayak there. Trying to get as much fishing in before I start teaching again.

Anyone been back to Clinton to fish there lately? if so how is it fishing deep cranks or jigs or getting bites in the shallows and hitting it this weekend.

We fished last weekend and the bass were on timber in 5-16ft of water on the west end of the lake. I would just hit up the coves with timber and pitch into it. My boater was using a t-rigged worm and I was using a shakey head.

Welcome to the boards and I'm from the south suburbs as well in Calumet City and Tampier may be a good place to try your kayak also.

Fished clinton on Saturday. Fishing was pretty slow actually- but only got in around 4 hours before i had to head to a different body of water. Anyhow, there was a fish kill there- was told around 1000 fish. I would assume a good number could have been stripers, but i also expect the fishing to be a bit slow. Hope i am wrong.

Fish were on ledges a bit, but also some pushing up against wood as bwell stated. I threw a jig and trigged as well.

I have a friend that lives in Calumet City so I pass through there a lot. Thanks for the tip. I actually just read a forest preserve report that says the walleye in Tampier are pretty big. I haven't fished there since I was a kid.

New to the site, another fellow IL fisherman. I do fish mostly in Wisconsin but I get out around the Chicago land as much as I can. Looking to hook up with a BASS club next year possibly.

How your 1st year going so far?

i noticed the talk bout a fishing club, whats the rules for these, do you have to have a boat, be so good or what. wanted to join 1 for awhile now

How your 1st year going so far?

The 1st year has been a learning experience to say the least. I've had a 9,10 and 11th place finish in some events and others I've drawn a zero but have caught fish just not the length needed. Learned some new techniques such a C-rigging and finally able to get and use some deep diving cranks as well. Learning about boat position and reading the imaging screens as well. All in all it has been a good season as far as "My" goals but its been rough at times as well on those days when you get "no" hits and second guess yourself and your skills but sure everyone goes through those things. Looking forward to my next two events with one on Lake Springfield and the other on Lake Shelbyville as the season ending event.

Much easier to join a club when you have a boat. As far as skill level, If you can afford the entry fee, that's all the skill you need.

There are dozens of bass clubs in IL google "bass club" or "bass tournaments" with your location and you will be directed to a list of clubs. Go from there

Has anyone fished Shelbyville lately? We have a tourney there this Sunday and are looking for ideas on where the fish might be on the lake.

Anyone know what the water temps are on Braidwood? Got a tournament Sept 2 and hoping to get a jump on finding fish so I'm planning on a trip this week. Anyone been out?

bwell, are ppl allowed to tag along or do you gotta be a member

Got to be a member for insurance reasons...

Last 2 times I was at Shelbyville it took 15lbs and 10lbs those events and fish were caught on the rip rap near the dam on a wacky rigged worm and on squarebill cranks along the rip rap near the bridge. Some were also caught deep on a C-rig with green pumpkin and a small touch of jj's on the end of a craw.

Anyone fished lake springfield lately? Got a 2 day event there are the end of the month and wondering how to fish it and where the fish migh be or is fishing deep the best option. Thanks

Shelbyville sucked only 12 bass brought in for our club, and even the ITT guys were struggling bad. We caught 9 bass but all short.

I can believe it as the last couple of times I've been there its fished that way and I have one more event there before the b.a.s.s. guys come in for their event next month and I wanna see how well they do there also.

First skunk of the year on the Chain today. Not even a bite. Water temp has dropped to 74 degrees and water still low. My son picked up a 14" walleye and that was it.
