Black Friday.  Why not tackle stores????

Driving by the outlet mall last Thursday night at 11:30 and seeing all the lemmings er I mean people in the parking lot and the sea of cars to get in made me think, if the local mega tackle shop did the same thing, I suppose I'd be waiting in the parking lot too at 11:30 pm waiting for the doors to open. :)

So why don't they do it?

Now why didn't I think of that???  I'll see what I can do for next year.  Thanks.

BPS and Cabela's had a few hour sale on Friday morning, although I was out of town and couldn't be there.  However, they didn't include much tackle in them.  I guess their version is their "Classic" sale in the spring.

See what you did Redline!!! Giving him more ideas so he can benefit off our financial problems!

the BPS in MD had tents for people to sleep in overnight.  I think it was the monkeys doing. ;)

Because we'll pay whatever they charge.  Bastages :)

Very true...  I don't remember Robert ever mentioning a purchase, driven by a sale.  ...lol   ;D

Not so, he's a value hunter, just buys things from a different class.  He will still find that special reel at it's cheapest cost out there. (Then add $200 of carbon fiber accessories to it,lol)

I think the reason tackle shops do not have sales like that, is because they are seaonally driven. For intstance, Tex's Tackle here in Wilmington has a huge sale every spring. They have big sales on all their tackle such as mirrolures offshore rigs, rods, reels and Gulp baits which is very popular here in the salt, they also put all their bulk line on sale and have drawings for door prizes.

I don't know about y'all area of the country but down south Academy Sports & Outdoors had one of our biggest days on Black Friday; we sold over $270,000 which was 5th overall out of 100 stores.

Wilmington only has one big box sporting goods store and that is Dick's . And our Dick's sporting goods store sucks, it is always a mess, nothing is ever marked and theyare always out of stock. We have Wlly world but they have stopped carrying as much tackle as they use too. Everything esle around here is local tackle shops.

From a marketing concept, you want to sell items that can be given as Christmas gifts.

This means the larger, more expensive items such as rods and reels plus electronics and things for the boat.

Baits do not have a large profit margin so it is not worth it to put them on sale when you want to attract the females to your store to purchase the higher priced items.

Women have no idea about the different types of lines or scents, etc.

My wife got me one of the new Shimano Stella's (2500 series) as she got what I told her to buy.  She had no idea about the baits or lines or other terminal tackle that I use during the year nor anything about the rods and reels.

And from a marketing prespective, the big "pre spawn" sales where the guys are getting ready to go fishing is a great time to sell tackle, rods and reels.  In fact, when the big sales occur in late January or February we are getting menatlly prepared to open a new fishing season and our wallets are busting with money to spend.

Its all marketing.

Maybe their thinking is that women are the stand in line types and or women by in-large don't by gear so why bother?

In this world of make a sale at all costs that they would look to attract the male shoppers.

Robert you are business savy guy; aren't they missing out on a golden opportunity to get people in their stors when maybe they normaly wouldn't be?

It's all marketing.  I would honestly stand in line at 11:30 PM and wait for the doors to open if I knew that I could get an extra 10 - 20% off on tackle.  If we all lived in the same area we'd probably car pool!

On Black Friday & through the Christmas Holidays Academy sales more to women in the hunting & fishing dept than men. Most know exactly what they want to buy & cost isn't a consideration because they are buying for their husband or kids. Last year I waited on one lady who bought her husband 6 Shimano Calais, 6 Calcutta rods & a Remington BDL 700 because she thought it look pretty; I asked what she was getting & she showed me a diamond ring that was about 7 or 8 carats. Sales like Black Friday and others is why Academy blew Bass Pro Shops out of the water in total sales last year.

Robert the only reason I work part time for Academy is 25% ;)

X2

But there aren't too many big tackle places around here besides the new BPS and Cabelas that would do that. Besides Dicks and Wal Mart there are only a few (4 or 5) small mom and pop owned tackle shops around that are worth walking into. And my mom said BPS on Black Friday wasnt crowded at all, so it seems like there isnt as much as an interest over here or something.

Exactly how many people does that Porsche Spyder hold? ;D
