Uncomfortable lunch encounter today.

So I went to grab some lunch today by myself at this Italian place in town. I walk in, ask for a table for one and am led to my table. It's a fairly popular place, I usually end up running into a few people I know from the local community. Today was no different, but not what I'd expect....

After being seated I get up to go wash my hands in the mens room. On the way there I notice one of my clients, and he notices me. As I get closer to the table, I see the lady sitting across from him and with her back to me is not his wife...but they are holding hands across the table. Mind you they just came into my office a couple weeks ago, and so as far as I could see, everything was cool. They've been clients of mine for a good 7 years now too. I couldn't understand why he had this 'blank' look on his face, but it became clear quickly. I didn't even stop to say hello, as he looked past me when I was approaching.

When they finished eating they walked right past me too. Left a really bad feeling in my gut, since I know the wife and kids.

Now that you know his secret it is probably best to stay out of the situation as you can't win if you confront him or tell his wife.

Otherwise, how was lunch?

I don't get involved in other's personal matters, especially clients.   I do however, see him in a different light.  Its not a good one either.

They make the best linguine alla vongole at this place.

I agree with Sam, i would leave it alone. It'll catch up with him some day.

Touchy situation that you handled correctly. If the guy's not a personal friend who wishes to confide in you about the "situation", then best to stay out of it entirely, IMO. His "desert" may end up not being what he thought it would be in the end.

Wow!! That must have been very unsettling. I don't care how good the food was that can ruin your lunch.

The worse part is, now every time you see this clown, this is all you will remember.

Good luck,

Falcon

I've worked in restaurants for the better part of my working life and have seen this plenty of times. On a weekday, some dude will be in with the wife and kids. Then that weekend, he'll be in with the girlfriend.  :o

I don't understand cheaters, and I sure don't understand the ones who bring the girlfriend to the same place they bring the family. It's almost like they want to get caught. Its a sad situation, especially when there is kids involved.

It makes perfect sense. People are creatures of habit just like those mystical bass we are after! Think about it... I am sure you guys who smoke or chew get your ciggs at the same place every day. (Just a little example)

And you might have lost a client, as he will probably want to avoid any potential future awkward situations.

I doubt it Zel, I have all their financials in office for investments they make....

That is sad and awkward!  My heart goes out to the wife and kids.

Maybe a simple comment as you walk by, to say "does the wife know about her and laugh" or"dang whats this ones name" ;D ;D

lol thats something I'd do.  But it is a sad situation and I'd never be able to look at him the same again either.

I'm lucky I have the girlfriend I have now.  Besides Idk how someone can handle TWO of them  :-/, one is almost too much trouble  ;D

Yeah, that would be real classy... ::)

Thats why I wouldn't be intrested in Polygomy. One is hard enough to handle let alone 30 or more ;D

Can you imagine what a polygamist's "honey-do list" looks like?

Yeah, that would be real classy... ::)

It would be more classy than cheating on your wife! ;)

I also wouldn't say anything, but I would more than likely laugh I disagree off if someone did say that!

Peoples personal lives are just that  , personal. Get off your soap boxes fellas.

they just had a thing on oprah with that guy from "what would you do?" and it was that exact circumstance.

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT watch oprah regularly...i was waiting for a manly show to come on.

robert, just out of curiosity--what do you do for work?

I own a finance company, and also represent some investors.

"We agreed on 13%, not 3%,......... right?"

I don't *** you Robert that was a tough situation.

You might want to make sure he stays vERY current on any fees. Once he gets caught they might be much harder to collect!  :o

They are very good clients.  I meet with them atleast 2x a year to go over different things.  I'm curious to see how the next meeting will go.

He'll probably pretend nothing happened, didn't see me, as I will do the same.

Perhaps it was your client's twin brother.  Would explain why you thought you recognized him, and why he didn't recognize you.  Yep, that's got to be it.

See?  Simple.
