classic country

Recommended Posts

I know there's alot of country fans here but how many of you are into classic country?

I've always liked David Allen Coe and Hank Williams Jr. but I've recently been getting into more Waylon Jennings (I wanna go to Luckenbach, TX  ;D) and Merle Haggard. Any suggestions on other artists to try listenin to?

I grew up around musicians seeing as how my father is one. Practically my whole family on my dads side plays an instrument of some kind. Music is one of my favorite hobbies next to fishing.Waylon and Hank are some of my favorites too. Country state of mind is a great song. Listen to Travis Tritt i bet you would like him, Charlie Daniels too. Do you like any newer artists like kevin fowler or Rodney Atkins? Kevin fowler is my favorite country artist right now, long line of losers is an excellent song.

BIG time country fan. I throw in a few classics every now and then.

Haggard and Hank JR are good. I also like Johnny Cash, John Denver, Randy Travis, Charlie DanieslLynard Skynard( I guess they're kinda Southern Rock, but same diiference.) and The Egales. The Highwaymen are good too. There's more I just can't think of them right now. :P :P

Jake P.........

Rodney Atkins is my #1 fav. followed by Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Josh Turner, and Brad Paisley. In that order. (Josh Turner has a few Johnny Cash songs that you might want to check out.)

Kevin Fowler is ok. He's got a couple good songs out there. Long Line of Loosers is good, but I also like Beer Bait and Ammo.

Tight Lines ;) 8-)

The classic rock band I played in here in Diego used to play "Crazy" by Patsy Cline and every time we played it the crowd would just go nuts (I'd have said crazy but that was too much of a pun since I really like Patsy Cline). I just think Patsy had one of, if not THE most beautiful singing voices I have ever heard. I don't really consider John Denver a country singer. I think he was more of a balladier but I like most of his songs. Johnny Cash is one of my all time favorites as well. "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by Charlie Daniels ranks up there real high on my all time favorite songs list too.

"BEST" country song of all time: You Never Even Called Me By My Name

http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/y/youneverevencalledmebymyname.shtml

Just proves you don't have to be from the country to write good country songs.  It was written by Steve Goodman from Chicago who also wrote The City of New Orleans.

My favorite country singer of all time is Don Williams.

You might try Shooter Jennings.  He's Waylon's son.  His first two cds were really good and the third one is okay.

I love classic country music, probably my favorite genre.  Here in west KY we have a Friday and Saturday night radio show of of just outlaw country,  probably the best 6 hours of radio all week.

Someone nobody mentioned, Mickey Newberry. Could write lyrics with the best of them and had a great voice. The way I heard about him, he had a song called "San Francisco's Mabel Joy" it crossed over from the country charts. I bought the album "Heaven Help the Child" and played the grooves off it! He is mentionrd in "Luckenbac Texas", Newberry's train songs. He's passed away now but if you ever get a chance ;)...
