BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted February 23, 2007 BassResource.com Administrator Posted February 23, 2007 We have an extremely rigid and inflexible policy towards religious and political posts, references, icons, signatures, avatars, etc. Simply put, if it's slightly religious or political, it's in violation. This includes petitions of any sort. Three rules to remember: 1. Don't bother posting about politics or religion, it will be edited or deleted. 2. This is a fishing forum. If you wish to argue about political and religious beliefs, find a suitable forum about politics and religion. 3. Refer to rule #2 If your post is deemed political or religious in nature, it will be subject to edits or removal. If you get upset when that happens and wish to contend the ruling, refer to rule #4. 4. This policy is not open to debate. If you feel this rule is confusing, doesn't apply to your post/avatar/signature/etc, feel it's infringing upon your freedom of speech, or want to contest it, then you need to find another forum. If you are banned for failing to abide by this policy, the ban is permanent. There are no review processes nor conditions whereby access to the forum may be restored. 8
justfishin Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I agree 100%. As I stated in my post on this subject, in hindsight this is not the place for such issues. I am sorry that I even started that post. If everyone could keep a level head in discussing such issues it would be fun. Unfortunatly everyone cannot be a adult on these types of subjects. I feel your decision was a healthy one for your site, thanks. 1
Troutfisher Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I am glad some rules are up, yet isn't that what Paparock wanted in the first place? A set of rules? He seemed pretty upset when he left.
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted February 24, 2007 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted February 24, 2007 Yes, we had rules. He just felt we weren't being fair, which is VERY common when somebody's post is edited/locked/deleted. They ALWAYS feel we're being unjust, attacking them, too liberal or conservative, too biblical or agnostic, playing favorites or singling them out, or are interpreting the rules wrong; then they want to argue/debate the rules to suit their own personal agendas. Given that politial/religious threads are almost always at the heart of this issue, we are no longer going to allow them here. What happened with him was just the last straw. I never change policies/rules because one person thinks I should. I do so only after a trend or pattern has been established. I WILL NOT talk about him any longer. What's done is done, it's not open for review. He can come back, however, since he was never banned. But it seems he destroyed his profile, which cannot be reversed. He would need to start over again, with brand new profile. Too bad knee-jerk reactions based on assumptions and fueled by tempers can cause irreversable results. 1
frogtog Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Man I wished I knew all those words that Glenn was throwing out. ;D
Ghost Rider Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Would you talk about this stuff in a 16ft bass boat with a buddy the size of the Hulkster? I say not unless you could swim ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Cephkiller Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 I fully comprehend that this rule is not open to debate, however, maybe I can start the trend or pattern pursuant to the following policy: "I never change policies/rules because one person thinks I should. I do so only after a trend or pattern has been established." Rule number 2 and 3 are contually violated. I thought that was the whole point of having an "Everything Else" section.
Guest the_muddy_man Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 TO QUOTE SOMEONE >>>" THIS IS NOT A DEMOCROCY!!!!!!" Hows this for a question Go on some real political site and see if you can can an answer to this: HOW DO I TWEEK A SPINNERBAIT FOR SLOW ROLLING?" and see how that fits in ;D I am extremly grateful to that ONE MAN for taking the time and keep this site what it is. He put's the $$$$$ up and it's his site. I also haven't seen one site that compares to this site SO MAYBE HE KNOWS WHAT HE"S DOING. In fact a friend of mine belongs to BDO and they have redone their site and it's trying to run like this one. I love when someone says I know it's this way and I still wanna change it AND IT"S WORKING JUST FINE THE WAY IT IS' So My vote is strongly for the one guy with the forsight and opinion that really matters around here NOW IS THAT THE NEW TREND OR WHAT ;D
Cephkiller Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 WOW! Were you a "teacher's pet" when you were in school? ;D ;D ;D ;D 1
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted April 7, 2007 Super User Posted April 7, 2007 I am going to go out on a limb and say ..... No he wasn't.
Guest the_muddy_man Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Nah That's a fair question just reading my answer, no offense taken. No I got some time to fish and hang out with Glenn and this site reflects his personality and his demeanor. He walks the talk and I find him honorable and I stick up for the people I respect. Ain't bout not being anyones pet , it's about how I feel about my friends. 1
Cephkiller Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Hey Muddy, I've been reading your posts long enough to know that you are very passionate about that which you care deeply and I can tell you care deeply about this sight, as do I. I was just razzing you a little bit. I, too, have great respect for Glenn and I have defended him on occasion as well as promoted this sight as much as anyone. I was jut expressing my opinion on the rules in what I thought was a very casual and nonconfrontational way. If I offended anyone, especially Glenn, I am sorry. BTW, I was a HUGE teacher's pet. I even have the yearbook to prove it.
Guest the_muddy_man Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Ceph It's all good in the hood!!!! You cool dude Well I gotta go back to %#*# work see you guys after 1 am
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 7, 2007 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 7, 2007 Hey Muddy, Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate it. To clarify: Keep in mind that rule #2 doesn't say, "fishing topics only". It implies, "remember what we're here for, so off topics, while not forbidden and are in fact welcome, are subject to editorial review." Make sense?
Guest avid Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 My understanding of what Glenn is trying to do is to keep the forums civil. Political and religeous posts lend themselves to fierce arguments and invite rude often offensive behavior. BassResource.com is the best. Newbies are always impressed, sometimes even amazed at the comraderie and good will found here. This is not an accident. It is because that's the way Glenn wants it. So do I and about 8,000 other people. BassResource.com Rocks
RecMar8541 Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Sure do understand why Glen has things this way, and love the site here. Just ashamed that everything isnt open for compelling discussion, because there will always be someone who has to be a wise arse, or who cant manage civilized comments. Ive seen it a few times here even in fishing topics. Its sad really. I am convinced as an example avid and I could definitly have a conversation in which we disagree, and both may even gain some perspective from the other. Its just sad that there are so many narrow minds who lack the education and wisdom to disagree without becoming angered.
Replica. Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 Its just sad that there are so many narrow minds who lack the education and wisdom to disagree without becoming angered. Just imagine if the "Makes me sick" thread was about religion and not a fish.
skillet Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 "lack the education and wisdom to disagree without becoming angered" Which is more than likely the reason he had the foresight to make these rules in the first place. IMHO I wouldn't want it to be anyother way... As Ever, Skillet
kybassangler Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 I think Glenn and the mods do a great job. This is a respectful place to ask questions and learn new things. I don't think that is an accident. In religion and politics somebody is always doing something wrong glad to see it aint a topic here. And i disagree with those who disagree.
fisherdave Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 With out upsetting anyone I d like to ask a question. I am new to this site and I like it, it is a great site to ask question and to assosiate with lots of people with the same addiction as myself "fishing". For example in one of the topics one of the younger guys had a question about high school and in my reply I said "the one person you really need to worry about being best friends with is the big man upstairs" is that agaist the rules or are you talking about just out right descussion of what you beleave as far as religion. I understand this isnt a church surmine and if thats what you want then there are places online for that. Not trying to offend anybody just curiouse.
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 30, 2007 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 30, 2007 General rule of thumb: When in doubt, don't say it. Religion and politics have their place, but this isn't the place. We have people here from all walks of life with every type of political/religious viewpoints you can imagine. While you mean well, and your comment may seem harmless to you and others like you, it's very offensive to somebody else and others that are like minded. The same is true regarding politics. There's just no middle ground, or "little comment" that's neutral to everyone, no matter how well intended or innocent the remark may be. Thanks for asking. Hope that helps!
Guest muddy Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I get in enough trouble as it is, I am grateful for the boundries set here, I am slowly learning a little more tolerance and maybe even when to stay out of the mess!
fisherdave Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Thanks for the explanation I do understand.
FishingBuds Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 You do a great job Glenn but, I will suggest to add GAS PRICES to the Poltical/Reglious posts too ;D ;D ;D ;D
