Sports rivalries

Featured Replies

Nice thread. When I think Rivalries, Im talking big rivalries.

Biggest hands down is Red Sox vs Yankees. You cant get any bigger than that in MLB, sorry.

Celtics vs Lakers period. It carried the sport for decades in the 1960s, 1980's and just recently.

One of the longest running without a doubt is Harvard vs Yale football. Ohio State vs Michigan needs to be mentioned as well.

For rivalries in NFL every team has divisional opponents. Some of the bigger ones Chiefs vs Raiders, Cowboys vs Redskins, Jets vs Patriots.

NHL some of the bigger ones are Bruins vs Canadiens, Canadiens vs Maple leafs, Red Wings vs Avalanche though that has seemed to have calmed down a bit.

I disagree on the Cubs vs W Sox. Most Cub fans could care less about the W Sox and their 3,000 statewide fans

How far from Chicago are you? it may be different in the hole you are in.

U of M vs OSU

"Bo vs Woody"

Nothing like being at the game and being a Michigan fan in Columbus, a life threatening experience. OSU fans smash Michigan car windows, overturn cars and riot!

Go Blue

The University of Michigan..... One of the two great football programs in the state, along with Central Michigan!!!!!

Poor old "Moo U". Bwaaahahaha!

NHL

Philadelphia Flyers vs just about any other team (especially the NY Rangers)

Colts vs. Patriots..... usually the NFL exploits it as one of the largest if not the largest non-partisan viewed game of the year (always scheduled mid season prime time).  A very stressful but good game for the Pats and Colts fans.

Also Cubs-Cards

NHL

Philadelphia Flyers vs just about any other team (especially the NY Rangers)

or the Flyres vs the men in stripes >:(

You got that right. Here's to them having a good season...

Watching them play the devils right now in the last preseason game.

Plus there is the Raiders and most everyone else. I once heard that being a Charger fan in the mens bathroom at a Raiders game was one the most dangerous places in the world.

Just by being at an Oakland game puts you in one of the most dangerous places in the world!

I don't see the fire in alot of those rivalries listed any more and i think it  has to do with the personell that have come and gone.

I will say that one of the most anticpated games of the year growing up was OU vs Neb Thanksgiving day or the old Washington vs Dallas Turkey Day games.

Sorry aTm, I haven't felt the rivalry since Slocum left and the Wrecking Crew hasn't been seen since either.

OU and Texas is big.

OSU and MICHIGAN

USC vs OSU/MICH/PENN. St/ ND

Bama and Alburn

Florida and Miami and FSU 20 years ago.
