For you speeders

Featured Replies

Man I have five "speedtraps" on roads I drive everyday

I have an app like this on my droid. It starts freaking out if I get near a speedtrap. I usually don't speed though :P

I thought speed traps were illegal in some states, LIKE CALIFORNIA

What is the definition of "speed trap?"   Forget about the speeders and lets punish the radar operators ::)

I read one of the speed trap posts in my area.  The guy was complaining about the unmarked cop car running radar in a school zone.  Some people should just be taken out back and ________. (fill in blank that suits yourself)

I admit I speed on the highway but neighborhoods where children are playing I drive slow.

My area is littered.  Taking the city bus from now on.  Is there add'l fare to hook up the boat?

Uh, not to be a naysayer and I'll probably get flamed for this but aren't speed limits posted for a reason?  As in safety?!!!  I have no great sympathy for speeders who get caught and if I get a ticket for excessive speeding (which I fortunately have not), I figure I've brought it upon myself.

We had speed cameras installed on our freeways in the Phoenix area for the last 2 years. They helped keep the Dale Earnharts slowed down a bit. They were all shut down this week. Now we'll be dealing with people doing 20 or more over the speed limit again, swerving from lane to lane. SCARY!

Yes they are, and I am usually either at the limit or I'm keeping with traffic to keep from getting run over. The traditional definition of a speed trap, I believe, is a place where the limit changes all of a sudden, for no apparent reason, you aren't expecting it, and you get caught.  The one I looked up in my area is just off the interstate where the speed goes from 60 to 40.  The road is still 4lanes with center turn, but there are curbs, and that's what makes the difference. Coming the other direction on this road is downhill, and admittedly it is hard to keep it at 40.

In Oklahoma, there is a law that states that any city or township that generates "x" percent of its revenue from speeders is designated as a "speed trap," so the city/township is prohibited from enforcing the speed limit.  Now, get this.  Since the town is no longer allowed to enforce the law, it has to call in the state Highway Patrol.  The town loses a substantial part of its revenue and it goes to the state instead.  Democracy at its finest!

Moby Bass- here in Phoenix keeping up with the traffic can easily mean running 15mph over the speed limit. If I do that guess who'll be the one to get a ticket? Then ask the officer why he picked you for the ticket. The reply;"Ever go fishing? Ever catch ALL the fish?" lol.

Been to Phx. many times, I know what you're saying.  Just don't be the last one in the line.  ;)

We have five red light cameras here in town and none of them has increased accidents...Weird. I've been playing devil's advocate for the cameras since they arrived. It kind of fun toying with the locals.  ;D

Check out Morristown, Tennessee on that website. One of the speedtrap that goes from 40mph to 30mph then a red light camera, then back to 40mph is true. However, there is a school in that in 30mph stretch...I don't know what to say about that. hahaha. It really did change after the installation of the cameras. lol.

Was on I-17 yesterday and I called it right. The speeds are up to @ 15 over the speed limit with drivers swerving from lane to lane to get one more car behind them before dive bombing into the exit lane across 3 lanes of traffic! The death rate is about to go up!

Hey Moby Bass, where do you live? I was born in Franklin Pa. and my parents still live in Clarington.

Nice find.

I got caught in one driving on 91S in New Hampshire a few years ago. They were doing a lot of construction on the bridges, so near each bridge the speed limit went from 65 to 55. I wasn't paying much attention, as I was just going with the flow of traffic, but at the speed trap they arbitrarily reduced the speed limit to 50 instead of 55 (more cash money for them), and they had a radar cop behind a sign who was radioing information to 10-15 cop cars all lined up down the road, who were continually pulling over tons and tons of cars, then getting back into formation. So I got hit for 68 in a 50, in a work zone, when I was just going with the flow of traffic. I was one of the unlucky ones because obviously they couldn't pull us all over. That p'd me off.

Very similar situation as Tokyo Tony, down in the keys passing a slower RV I sped up to 68mph ( on a bridge, passed radar) and after passing I slowed down, once back on land another car pulled me over and issued a ticket.  Even though in Florida you can go to school and eliminate ticket, just pay the fine, I went to court.

My argument was this: The ticketing officer had no first hand knowledge of any violation, complete hearsay from the radar officer.  The ticketing officer had no idea of who was driving the car at the time of the infraction, we could have changed seats as I had a passenger.  The ticketing officer was assuming the radar cop had his radar calibrated that day and failed to produce a log confirming at the court hearing.  The radar officer radioed ahead and said " white dodge", and at the alleged speed of 68mph not being able to get the actual license plate, without the plate there is no proof positive as many white dodges on the road.

I won.

Had this not been a blatant speed trap I would have paid the ticket and been done with it.  I flew down from Michigan for 3 days, airline ticket hotel 2 rounds of golf and probably spent $1500......more than ticket, but no points, this was purely principal.

The ones listed for the jurisdiction in which I work are wrong.....so don't speed  ::).
