Why am I recently infatuated with golf? I went out with my dad and my cousin that had come in town for one of my first 18 the other weekend. Although right now I suck, I have been spending my money up at the local golf course fine tuning my drives and getting some green time. This is going to be one expensive haul and on top of that all I have is 2 crappy clubs.. oh boy

I love playing Golf.  I'm not good at it, but it's still fun.  For me, it's relaxing and a good chance to BS with friends.  Plus you can have golf course shenanigans.  Whats more fun than racing the carts down the fairway.

I always had the most fun trying to get the beer cart girl to blush!

I actually went out and played last week and shot a 69.  It was one of those days where I couldn't hit a bad shot even if I tried.  My previous best was a 76, so I was pumped.  Now, golf is fighting for fishing time. :D  I will warn you...it gets ADDICTIVE!!

Yes it is.....been playing golf since  was a child. Its that one good shot that brings ya back and makes wanna get spending money. But just like fishing equipment , golf clubs can be affordable if you look in the right places. I would check some local shops and look for some used clubs to start.

Funny thing is, I was a fishing nut years ago, then got involved with golf.

Got to the point where I regularly shot in the 80s from the back tees and on a good day in the 70s.

Got involved with a local stock car team for about five years and never touched a club.

Then I decided to play golf again.  Struggled to break a hundred.  Hit a few good shots and several horrendous shots.  Aggravating as heck.

When I realized that it was unlikely I'd ever get back to the playing form of a few years earlier, and stopped being so serious my game got better.

Mostly in the 90s now, with the occasional round in the mid to high 80s, but it is what it is.

Oh, and by the way, just as my golf game was starting to come around a bit, I got into fishing again.  Now, I spend more of my free time on the water, but still try to get the clubs out a couple of times a week just to keep life in perspective.

My golf game is wild.  I've played nine holes in one over, only to shoot in the fifties on the second nine to end up with a score in the 90s.

In that regard, it's much like fishing.  Good days, great days, and days when nothing goes right.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. It's funny how it works; I golf my first 18 and I'm hooked. AND I just bought a decent driver on ebay. HISTORY IN THE MAKING! haha

...and what did you shoot on the back 9? ;D

I suck at golf but I enjoy getting out and rippin' some driver shots. I cant control 'em and I lose a lot of balls but its worth it. I have broke 100 before though. Once. A legit 99.  ;)

The game of golf is very intriguing and there is nothing simple or easy or cheap about it.

It's called golf because all of the other four letter words were taken.

My worst shot ever was a few years ago when I NAILED, I mean NAILED the clubhouse with an iron shot gone horribly wrong. I can still remember the echo of that shot through the trees. No one was hurt, but I'm sure there are a few people who are still wary around that clubhouse.

Most unforgiving sport on the planet.

And you can only blame yourself for how you do, good or bad.

If you think bass fishing can be tough, try making a 20 foot put.

I took up bass fishing because I came to the realization that I was never going to be worth a crap at golf.  Anyone want to buy a set of left-handed Pings?

I shoot left handed, how old are those clubs?

ive been playing for many years. as soon as i got my flats boat, golf became very mental for me. if i played golf and started playing poorly i would second guess my decision to play golf instead of going fishing. now i play once a month. i am a 12 handicap and fortunately for me there is a nice course on the beach that is cheap and great shape. if i can give you any advice it would be practice your short game. inside of 100 yards and your putting is key to good scores.

Thanks for the advise, I may be doing a scramble here in a few weeks. here at school. I hear my putting game is pretty darn good, but we'll see. Anyone selling a set of Nike Slingshot's? I've been borrowing them for a few days and love them, but need to get myself a set.

If your just starting out. I would highly recommend you seek out a Good instructor, find one that is to your liking..It's hard to Unlearn bad habits in golf, much easier to learn the right way the first time around.

I tried learning on my own for about 2 months, once a found a good pro, all of  the bad things I tried went away eventually, and I started seeing better scores, and way less errant shots.

I played golf quite a few time. My brother lived on a golf course last year and was a member of the course so I played a lot there. Never could keep my game under 95. ;D I mean, don't get me wrong, golfing is funny with the right people and all, but it just isn't for me in the long run.

Outside of fishing, backcountry camping and mountain biking will suffice. :)

P.S. I once got a cart stuck in the mud. Oops. ;D

Something I do plan on doing maybe next summer when school isnt so demanding. I did actually take 2 summers of golf lessons when I was 11 and 12, but it was just basic swinging instructions on the driving range, and that'as about as far as I took it. I wish I would have realized how much I liked it a lot sooner. ;D

I played professionally for a short period. Made it through Q-school for the Canadian Tour in 2006 with 284 for the four days. I was out of college and playing well, and thought I was really something.

Long story short, I didn't make a cut all year, but had an awesome time. Traveled and played events from Victoria, BC to Montreal and everywhere in between. Met some awesome people as most of the time, members of the club where the tournament was held would put you up in their home for a week.

If I had it to do over again, I would have done a few things different. Life happened and I never gave the tour another shot, but I think I am playing better now than I ever did back then.
