She made it !!

Recommended Posts

Back in October we started the application process for our oldest daughter to get into our county's technical high school's Medical Arts Academy. They only accept 15 freshmen per school year. My wife called me today at work, crying her eyes out. She had just opened the acceptance letter.

She will be spending most of her school week at a college campus. Two days a week will be at the school itself for English, math, phys ed, etc. They will also travel to medical facilities and hospitals in our area. One cool thing on the agenda is they will observe an actual operation taking place and, from the theater, be able to ask the surgeon and staff questions via wireless technology.

The best thing is that it is part of our public school system. It's not 'free', no school is, but there is no additional cost to us besides scrubs (in lieu of uniforms) and a laptop.

She would kill me if she knew about this post as she hates a big fuss being made about her. Too bad.... ;)

A very big congratulations to your daughter.

A tip of the hat to her parents also, who have obviously been very positive role models for her.

Awsome.

Now tell her in order for you to retire early she must graduate at the top of her class, work hard and make lots of money because fishing stuff don't come cheap. 8-)

Congratulations to her!

Did she have to fill out an application to get accepted? We have to do that at our schools for Career Technical Education classes.

The city of Camden has the Brimm Medical Arts Academy. We live in Camden County, she'll be in the Camden County Technical School. She can potentially carry 16 credits into college. There's many fine medical schools around here. If she does well, who knows where she will end up ?

BC, yes we had to fill out an application, plus she had to write an essay and get letters of recommendation from two teachers. Also had to submit past report cards and state testing results.

I will say this, this school is nothing like the Vocational School (that's what it used to be called) when I was growing up. Back then all of the area schools used to dump the so called 'unteachable' kids there. Now if you have any disciplinary marks on your record, they will not admit you.

If she has the opportunity to take any organic chemistry classes in that school, make sure she takes advantage of it. Even if she doesn't receive college credit for orgo, it will help her be infinitely more prepared once she goes to college for pre-med. Orgo courses in most colleges are absolute hell in terms of how much information people have to memorize, so her having a head start will make things a lot easier.

Also, congratulations!

I didn't know they had schools like that..where high school students could watch a surgery.... :o 16 credits is one semester, so that one less semester you have to worry about. 8-) From the sound of it, she probably get a full-ride.
