Best Scale?

Featured Replies

What do you guys recommend for the best, most accurate fishing scale for the money?

yep yep, always been a question in my mind....Ive looked at many reviews on a few different scales and they are all bad. I used a Berkley 50 lb scale for awhile but on my third trip it wouldn't even work...

It's funny you should ask this question. I've been wondering the same thing for a while now.

I recommend and Boga Grip with built in scale.   The scale is widely deemed to be very accurate.  The quality of the tool is top-notch.  It will last a lifetime.

X2

My Berkely scale has been my buddy for 5 years. Although I just found out that it is off by 3 oz. So all my past reports on big bass have been lies.

I have a couple Chatillon's. Paid $35 for them new about 25 years ago. Not sure what they are now. I have the IN-10 (10lb) for bass.

What's important is calibration, over the full range. I use exercise weights to test the range (1, 2.5, 5lb). Occasionally I have to tweak it. Even this high quality scale is off a bit over the range, so I make sure it's dead on at the upper end, and just know it's a bit low at the low end -3oz low at 2lbs.

I clicked the link the previous Chatillion poster sent, but it was a bit awkward to find where I could buy one and the price. Do you recall where you bought yours? I really like the fact that you can calibrate it! That has been my problem with other hanging scales - checked them with free weights laying around and they were off with no way to correct it...

You need to buy this now! It is normally $99.95, but they have extra inventory (called them) and are selling it on special with a sheath for $35!

Mine is on the way!

This one is also IGFA certifiable and the review compared it to Boga and Rapala, with this one coming out on top!

Thanks for the input! You guys make this site great!

Try a Google search, there are dozens of online retailers, though they may not be fishing related.  They run about $65.

Thanks Paul, but I already bought the lipper (see previous post).

Timing is everything. I was searching this very topic today and found your string of messages. Joined your board and ordered a Lipper. Thanks for the help!

It looks like a good deal, but the scale only measures in 1 lb increments.
