Slow day today.

Featured Replies

Went out this morning, and it was pretty slow. I caught 3 bass, my buddy caught zero, although he did get one bluegill. The first bass was a little dink maybe 8", second one a bit better 11.5" and the third one was the biggest, 14.5" and quite fat. Didn't even feel him hit, just felt a weight on the end of the line so I set the hook and he blew up out of the water. Caught them all on a weightless 4" blue robo worm.

Here's a pic of the biggest one.

Congrats on not getting skunked.

Thanks, I guess I was was making up for getting skunked on saturday  :P

I had the exact same day as you today at my local pond. Well I was out for an hour and a half and caught three bass....too bad my biggest bass was only 1 LB 1 oz :(. All my fish were caught on 6 inch purple roboworms too. That was the only bait I could get them to take, I had a 4 inch senko rigged up on the other rod and the bass wouldent even take that :(

How big was your 1lb 1oz? I keep hearing about 12inch 1.5pounders, but this fat one was over 14" and just a hair over one pound on my scale, which may or may not be accurate.

I actually forgot my tape measure that day :(. Good thing is I did take a quick picture of that bass. Here it is. Yeah he looks bigger than 1 LB 1 OZ but its just the angle of the camera shot that makes him look bigger.

Here is another pic that might help. This bass was caught thismorning and weighed 1 LB 7 OZ. This guy was a pretty fat little fish too yet was well short of 2 LBS. I guess that 14-15 inch bass often do not even weigh 2 lbs. However I have seen a pic on here somewhere else of a 15 inch bass that was weighed that was 3 LBS exactly and was very fat. Here is my 1 LB 7 OZ bass.

Yeah I believe that one. Bass are just like people. You can get some long skinny 16 inch bass that are only 2 lbs and some big fat 16 inch bass like yours which are 4 LBS. That 4LB bass is going to grow up to be a 10+ most likely. Looks like he eats a lot.

Dang T-rig, you have some nice looking laremouth over there. I love the dark coloration of the top fin and the tail on that one. Doesn't that normally mean that that fish lives in deeper water or does not come shallow too often?  Or is it just because the particular strain of largemouth that it is?  What a fatty! I'm still waiting for my first 3lber, let alone 4. I'm fishing a private pond that my dad's friend from work owns this Sunday and there have been 7-8lb largemouths that come out of it. We have been in a drought for a long time now so it has been off limits to fishing the last few months (per the owners decision). But now it's open again for friends of the family and such because it is private and there are 3-4 land owners (each has a rights to the pond). I can't wait. I'm definately looking for my new pb this weekend. W00t!

Actually I thought the dark green color was from being in the shallows for a good period of time.

Kind of like lake fish. The steelhead are a lot lighter in the lakes than when you catch them in the streams.

Got to the lake saturday at 9am, 42' outside, water temp 48', only boat on the lake. Beautiful! Well, first a pike swam away with my dropshot, then a 13"lm on a spinnerbait, and a 19" pike on a craw wee - r . Now this wouldn't be bad for a2 hr. trip, but it took ME 6 hrs.. I'm hoping to get out at least 1 more time this year, i've been out 40 times this year with no - i don't even want to jinx it - never mind.

That fish was caught in february out of about 20' of water. They seem to have that coloration during winter. The lake I fish is over 800 feet in the deepest spot! :o Very rocky and steep dropoffs everywhere. The water in winter is gin clear and there are millions of shad. I keep hearing that people catch bass in 60'+ of water, but around here you catch them in max. 25'. They never seem to be deeper than that and I dont know anyone that has caught them deeper.

I hope you catch your PB!!! ;)

Here another pic of a winter bass:
