A 4.2 Lber....out of the schuykill river...off of the River Trail on pawlings road for anyone who is familiar with the area....

the back story is that today was my Grandfathers funeral..He was one of my closest friends and mentors.....I miss him, he was a great man.

After the funeral was over, i went to the river to clear my head....

First cast, I let it drift down the current.....a couple minutes go by, and I finally get out of the current, and realize that I have a fish....

I start to real in, and it felt like a small smallmouth, i would have guessed under a pound..t

he only thing i realized was that when it would go near the surface it seemed very large...i thought at the beginning that something was snagged on to my fish...like a brush pile or something...

finally, the fish reached the shallow stuff, and i saw the size....i was shocked and excited..i had just changed down to 6lb test, and wondered if i could lift it out of the water...

he ran a few times, but still no power compared to what i would expect...I know my 2.6 Lber i caught a few days ago fought about 300% harder than this fish....

I know its weird, but i feel like my grandfather helped me with this fish, a message..I feel better knowing that strange things like this happen...

Anyway, here are the pics.....ENJOY

Woo-hoo!

That's a beauty!

Great catch....

I dont know if this is true or not but maybe that fish was an older, weaker fish that did not have much power left in him to put up a good fight?

I know people lose strength in old age and maybe fish do as well...

I dont know if this is true though since usually the bigger the fish I catch the harder the fight.....

I think that's a nice smallie in anyone's book.  Beautiful fish man. Congrats!!! ;)

Well done!

Nice Fishy. ;)

sorry about the loss. :'( Its nice to be able to clear your mind by fishing. It seems like now people whould vent by commiting a crime or doing drugs. I have always felt like a was blessed by loving to fish. It always kept me out of trouble and made me appriciate nature..

what you say is true....i used to be one of them guys......

but now im good, thank god.....that life is a downward spiral....

anyway, thanks for all the kind words abnout my poppop and my fish

that fish was crazy, biggest freshwater fish iv ever caught,.....i thought it would be 6 lbs for sure....it had me looking up state records....lol

Nice fish Johnny.  That has a gut on it.  I know what you mean with the fight.  My pb was only 1lb 13 oz but it felt like I was snagged and it never really ran, it just bolted down torwards the bottom of the riverbed a couple times.  I pulled him from a grass bed.  It was weird cause I've had smaller bronzebacks fight twice as hard.  Anyway regardless, I'm jealous man.  Great job out there!

Congrats dude!! thats a pudgy fish.

Im sorry about your loss.

The way I see it is that you didn't feel a thing because your grandfather put that guy on your hook. Keep him in your thoughts and he will always be with you.

Nice fish man. Sorry about your loss.

Smallies sure make the day a better one.

i felt kind of bad leaving my Mother and going fishing on that day...but she was in better shape than me and i needed to clear my head...

I feel like it was a sign that im doing fine, and to keep fishing and living like i am....that hes ok, and im ok

first cast, this beast, with no fight? Too strange and coincidental....

it definately seemed like their was other things at work here....

The Good Lord is always working.

I definately think that is a comforting sign from God.

Maybe not your pops but definately from the Lord.

Again great fish and keep your eyes focused above.

Great fish!  That's a large-mouthed smallmouth!  :)

Congrats on the PB!! Condolences on your grandfather :(. It must have been a real spiritual moment that will hang with you for a long time.

Nice fish  and I'm sorry for your loss.......It seems he taught you well
