For me it has to be the Fat Ika.  I've fished it every which way for three years.  Zip.  Let the pain begin.

Hey No Way: I fish an Ika Knock off by *** The *; I have a lot of success 'Fishing it the wrong way" I use it on a Evolution 2 jig head, instead of a grub, I had a lot of success fishing it deep this year, the seem to prefer the widder profile on certain days

The other way they work ; Fished ala Road Warrior, bagwards on an EWG hook, next to and dragged across lilly pads, Zel turned me on to this and it works great!

For me : Rattle Trap type baits: I have caught fish with them, I just ain't feeling them! :-/

For me it's the Rapala Original Floater.

Poppers, flukes and suspending jerkbaits.

Wow, now thats an unexpected one.  The first time I tried the Fat Ika I caught a nice fish on the first cast.  It has always produced for me, even when nothing else would.  I can't think of a time I tried the Fat Ika and didn't get a fish.  It is my 'go-to' bait in the winter especially.

Although- you guys will probably think my 'zero lure' is much more strange.  Some of you guys throw them ALL THE TIME, but I have NEVER caught a fish on a lipped crankbait.  I finally just took them all out of my tackle box to make room for more jigs and plastics.

I agree with suspending jerkbaits.

I find that lures that don't produce well is usually a result of me not fishing them in the best way, during the best times, or in the best places.  I used to feel frogs were useless.  Same for jigs, lipless cranks, and shaky heads.  Once I was armed with better information and better technique, these tools became top rated weapons along with the rest of the arsenal.  My goal lately is to see if I can add chatterbaits to the list.  I had decent success with them a few years ago, but now I don't even bother.  I'd like to see if I can't change that.

So, to summarize, I guess there isn't anything I think is really "overrated."  Maybe Senkos, but I still catch a lot fish on them too.

I keep my tackle selection to a minimum, so I don't have much stuff that sucks, but......

1. Banjo Minnow (do I need to say more?)

2. Rat-L-Traps

3. Suspending Jerkbaits

paddle tail tubes.

Paddletail tubes minnows have got to be the #1,along with swim senkos and chatterbaits.

For me it's the Rapala Original Floater.

Plastic worms and the #11 Original Floating Rapala ( silve 01) have been my most  productive lures of all time. I caught my first bass on artificals, back in the early 60's on that Rapala and have caught fish on it every since!

For me, chatterbaits.

I agree with suspending jerkbaits.

WHAT!?! Jerkbaits are my go to lures for smallies! Suspending jerkbaits are the only thing I throw in the early spring and fall for smallmouth. If you can't catch em' on jerkbaits you need to pick up a few LC Pointers man!!  ;)

as for overated lures, it has to be the chatterbait. Its not that they don't catch fish, but I can't see a single application where they would work any better than a regular spinnerbait

Chatterbaits indeed

Just figuring out how to make them run at first was a challenge, now figuring out where and when to use them is proving to be more of a challenge...

Chatterbaits.  Ikas.  Gulp.  Basstrix-Type Swimbaits.

Pretty much all swimbaits...

For those of you who need to get rid of them now, I will graciously take them off your hands...

GULP!!!!! I have never even seen anyone catch something on this stinky crap. Chatterbaits, swimming Senkos. Also all that gimmick stuff, zip lures, banjo minnows, helicoptor lures, flying lures and the like.

Those that said suspending jerkbaits, PM your address and I will gladly send the shipping fees and take those things off your hands.... To dispose of properly.

Spinnerbaits.  I feel like everyone is throwing them and I have never caught a BIG fish on one

I thought the same thing at first, didn't catch much at all on chatterbaits. But then I tryed fishing them at dusk/night, black/blue with a black/blue hulagrub trailer. It Worked great. Give the chatterbait another try, buy the original chatterbait in black/blue and use black/blue hulagrubs as a trailer, fish them primarily at dusk/night or in low light conditions. Then see if you still think it doesn't catch. Fish it exactly like you would a spinnerbait.

This thread seems to show that with any lure it's the guy at the end of the line that makes for the success or the failure of a proven lure, 8-)

Any infomercial lure aka banjo minnow.

Otherwise my next choices would be chatterbait, jerkbaits, and flukes.
